This was stated by Aker Solutions and Equinor on Thursday morning.

The contracts have an estimated value of NOK 1.3 billion.

The contracts apply to the Northern Lights project, which enables the transport of CO2 from capture sites to permanent storage, Equinor writes. The project forms the transport and storage part of Langskip, which is the government’s carbon capture and storage project.

Aker Solutions will build an onshore facility that can receive liquid CO2 for intermediate storage before sending it to permanent storage under the seabed, and this contract is worth around NOK 1.05 billion.

The company will also deliver a subsea system for injection into the CO2 well in the North Sea, a contract worth NOK 250 million.

– These contracts are crucial for the Northern Lights project to be successful, says Sverre Overå, Northern Lights project manager in the press release.

Aker Solutions is scheduled to start work in January 2021 and will be completed in 2024.

Aker Solutions writes that its strategy is to contribute to sustainable energy production, and that carbon capture and storage is part of that strategy.

– Our goal is for low-carbon solutions and the renewable industry to account for a third of our revenues in 2025 and two-thirds in 2030. Therefore, we are very pleased that Equinor has awarded us these strategically important contracts, says the CEO Kjetel Digre at Aker Solutions in the Stock Exchange Announcement.
