alarm: – Scared to last but

PS: Åsane beat Raufoss 3-1 in the Eliteserien first qualifying round on Wednesday night. A home game against Ranheim awaits him on Saturday.

Jerv and Åsane are two of the best Norwegian football teams that have been most affected by corona infection during the pandemic. In Jerv’s squad there have been four cases of contagion, while in Åsane there have been a total of eleven infected players at the club.

Åsane’s coach Morten Røssland believes several players have had a difficult time coping with the tight match schedule after crown disease and quarantine.

– Several of the players felt that the body was not working at all. You have low energy, headaches, and shortness of breath during physical activity. Many were completely battered after the match against Strømmen. Many are terrified of lasting but. An unpleasant and confusing situation, Åsane’s coach Morten Røssland tells Dagbladet.

Åsane received 10 verified cases of infection in players on November 24 and 25. Most of them came out of isolation three days before the game against Strømmen on December 7. It was felt in the bodies of the players according to Røssland.

– Several were tired after 25 minutes of play. Stimulate people’s chest. It is not justifiable, says the technician.

Eight of those who started the match against Strømmen were diagnosed with an infection on November 24 and 25. Åsane ended up losing the match 1-4.

Since ten Åsane players came out of isolation in early December, the team has played three matches (Strømmen, Jerv and Sogndal).

Understand the load

The competition director at NFF, Nils Fisketjønn, tells Dagbladet that he is not familiar with the problems Åsane have had. Fisketjønn says, generally speaking, that they would not start a match that they did not believe was medically justifiable.

According to FHI guidelines, you need to go three days without symptoms before you can end isolation and start exercising again. The doctor of the Molde and the “national emergency team”, Kjell Erik Strømskag, recommends that you take the training period in stride and avoid playing matches too early.

– I thought that three days between games is a short time, but I think it is justified. It is very individual how people react to the crown. In case of mild symptoms during the illness, he would have waited two or three days after isolation. That a tight match schedule can be stressful after an infection and during this time I absolutely understand that, Strømskag tells Dagbladet.

Both Strømskag and Fisketjønn say that players and coaches should make a careful assessment of whether players are ready to play a match after crown disease.

– Probably would have waited a couple of days before training. Ideally, there should have been a better time to bounce back between matches as well, says Strømskag, who says he also understands that the season should be played to completion.

Røssland adds that he adjusts the amount of training and playing time based on how those infected have reacted to physical activity during this period.

Asked for a postponement

Last Thursday, Åsane, Grimstad Jerv’s team met for a match, and after a problem in Levermyr, the match had to move to the Sør Arena later that day. According to Jerv’s coach Arne Sandstø, both teams had the desire to bring the game forward by a week, both because of the conditions on the pitch and the load that the two teams have had lately. A postponement was not relevant to NFF.

– No consideration is given. It’s horrible that they are pushing the fights. It’s a predation, says Arne Sandstø about the tight match schedule he has had towards the end of the season.

– We don’t have anything we should have said. The arguments to come should be good enough to postpone, says Sandstø and believes that the player’s health situation should have been put first.

Sandstø adds that they’ve had a player who couldn’t complete the season after crown disease.

– He doesn’t feel good when he trains, he says.

Fisketjønn tells Dagbladet that it was not appropriate to move the match to the following week, considering that the last day of the Obos league match was Sunday and they did not want an unfair scenario where they could bet on the outcome. Also, it would collide with the qualifiers for the Elite Series.

Fisketjønn admits that the situation is not ideal, but says that NFF, in consultation with the clubs, have had a strong desire to complete the season.

– Everyone has agreed that the season will be played over, but that Strømmen match should never have been played. We should have done more to postpone that match, says Røssland and continues.

– There has been pressure from the environment for the games to be played at the established time.

While Jerv secured a place in the Obos league in the last round, Åsane is yet to finish the season.

On Wednesday night they beat Raufoss 3-1 in the Eliteserien first qualifying round. On Saturday, Ranheim is absent in the second qualifying round.

Not worried

Molde’s doctor, Strømskag, believes that most young people in their 20s and 30s usually don’t want to have major problems with physical activity afterward. However, he points out that the symptoms are very individual and that you will feel it in your body after you have been through a strong infection.

Strømskog concludes by saying that there is little reason to worry that the load now affects long-term health.
