– We have been auditing at Boreal. As a result, we have so far withdrawn the general management certificate, which in turn affects all vessels. It’s serious, says communications director Dag Inge Aarhus at NRK’s Norwegian Maritime Directorate.

The company operates ferries and speedboats in Nordland, Troms, Finnmark, Møre og Romsdal, Rogaland and Vestland.

Aarhus further says that there will be a dialogue with the shipping company for a plan on how to get out of this situation.

– The only right thing to do

Exactly what discrepancies the audit at Boreal has revealed, currently has no details.

– This is not something we do with a transport company without serious results. We have a safety responsibility and this is the only right thing to do, says Aarhus.

At the same time, Aarhus emphasizes that such a refusal to navigate will not necessarily last long. But until we get a plan from the shipping company about what they intend to do, and this is approved, the shipping company can get a temporary boating permit for three months.

– When this plan has been withdrawn in relation to national regulations, it means that ships, until a solution is found, must be at the dock, Aarhus tells NRK.

Exactly what discrepancies the audit at the shipping company has revealed, Aarhus currently has no details.

So far NRK has failed to get any comment from Boreal.

Has established crisis staff

The Nordland County Municipality has posted crisis personnel, they confirm in a statement.

– Many travelers are affected naturally, and it is not a given that the islands are reached today, says the county’s director of transportation and infrastructure, Odd Inge Bardal.

– We don’t know how long this will take. We have been informed that central authorities denied navigation to Boreal.
