In the letter, neighbors claim that Trump lost the right to live in the large old mansion when he converted it from a private residence to a private club in the early 1990s. If they win on this claim, it could create problems for Trump. , who plans to move to Florida when he has to leave the White House on January 20.

– Many properties

During the presidency, Trump changed his residential address from Trump Tower in Manhattan to Mar-a-Lago. In the neighbors’ letter, they now demand that local Palm Beach authorities make it clear to Trump that he cannot use Mar-a-Lago as his residence.

“Palm Beach has many beautiful properties for sale and we are confident that President Trump will find one that meets his needs,” writes attorney Reginald Stambaugh in the letter.

For several years, the neighbors have been upset by the traffic jams and the closed streets because the president has come to Mar-a-Lago so often. Even before Trump became president, neighbors are said to have reacted when he did not want to follow local regulations. Among other things, he installed massive masts that broke with height adjustments in the area. He is also said to have repeatedly tried to reject the promises he made when he turned the house into a private club, writes the Washington Post.

– There is absolutely no legal theory that you can use the property as both a residence and a club. You will not be allowed to scare or fool people because we will be there, says one of the neighbors, Glenn Zeitz.

Neither the White House nor the Palm Beach mayor has commented on the situation so far.

Agreed

Under the agreement Trump signed in 1993 when he turned Mar-a-Lago into a private club, no club member can spend more than 21 days a year in the club’s guest room or more than seven consecutive days. Before the deal, Trump’s attorney assured city council that Trump would not live there.

During his presidency, Trump visited Mar-a-Lago at least 30 times and spent at least 130 days, according to the Washington Post. He has also invited heads of state from other countries there.

If Trump moves Mar-a-Lago after Jan.20, it could also create problems for the Secret Service. The police force will remain responsible for protecting Trump and must comply with federal and local laws.
