Here you can enjoy a white Christmas

Severe low pressures have characterized southern and eastern Norway recently. Most people have probably grown tired of the gray weather and dream of a colder, whiter Christmas.

However, they must be patient. The meteorologist says that the low pressure trend will continue through the weekend.

– Next week will be very mild and humid in southern Norway. The temperatures will be so high that the precipitation will come in the form of rain even in the mountains. Low pressure is moving north and will affect the entire country by the weekend, says on-call meteorologist Beate Tveita in Storm.

Fortunately, there are signs of a change early next week, just before Christmas Eve.

– It looks like it will be much cooler next week, at the same time that rainfall has been reported. It can give us snow in various places since Christmas Eve, he says.

Temperature drop

The temperature drop early next week will not occur until early southern Norway. The degree will show around zero, at the same time that some showers have been reported. This may mean that there is sleet and snow waiting.

A true white Christmas in the southern lowlands of Norway, says the meteorologist, however, that there is little chance of it happening.

– But if the reported rains come, they can definitely contribute to a more wintry atmosphere, she says.

Even more edifying is the meteorologist on the weather forecast in the north.

– It will be much colder in northern Norway. On Christmas Eve and Christmas Eve, there can be sleet and snow showers in various places, says Tveita.

Here it will snow

Østafjells and the Oslo area will be very hot this weekend with up to seven degrees or more. As we approach Christmas Eve, temperatures have dropped to zero again, which may give hope for a white Christmas in the capital.

– Most of the snow that there is now probably has rained then, but when it is colder it can have rains like snow if we are lucky, she says.

Vestafjells and in Bergen, on the other hand, it seems that you have to look for a long time a layer of white snow on Christmas Eve.

This weekend it can be up to nine degrees in Bergen. As we get closer to Christmas Eve, it will still be a few degrees higher and the degree is unlikely to drop below zero.

– In the mountains it can snow, but in the lowlands the precipitation will come in the form of rain, says the meteorologist.

Good chance of snow

Inhabitants of Trondheim will also experience mild weather this weekend, before temperatures drop until next week. On Christmas Eve, temperatures will likely be around zero degrees, but there is little rain in sight.

In Bodø, it will pass four degrees this weekend and drop to zero the closer we get to Christmas Eve.

– On Christmas Eve it rains, so there is a good chance it will snow, says Tveita.

The trend of a mild weekend followed by a cooler week will also be seen in Tromsø and Alta.

In Tromsø it will be three or four degrees more this weekend, and in Alta it will be about two degrees more.

– It will probably drop to a few degrees below zero next week and there will be a possibility of snow showers, he says.

– Fingers crossed

If you plan to leave town for Christmas and travel to the cabin, the forecasts will be much more certain, according to the meteorologist.

– If you go to the cabin in the mountains, there are many possibilities for a real white Christmas. There is a lot of snow and it is very nice in the mountains now both in the south and in the north. Although rain has been reported over the weekend, it will be colder next week, so it bodes well for snow at Christmas, he says.

The extent to which the forecasts come in for cities and the lowlands depends on how mild it is this weekend and how much snow in the lowlands it will rain then.

– We have to cross our fingers and hope it is not mild for long, she says.
