Five years ago, businessman and billionaire Reidar Osen was brutally assaulted and kidnapped on the outskirts of Galleri Nygaten, 100 meters from the Bergen police station.
Nine months earlier, Petter Slengesol was brutally assaulted, also in Bergen.
For many years, the two cases went unsolved. Since December 2015, Reidar Osen and the police alert Kenneth Berg have fought for the kidnappers to be caught.
The police investigator raised the alarm about the police
Then came the big breakthrough in 2019, and in April, a 37-year-old Pole and a 32-year-old man were charged with aggravated robbery against both.
But the accusation has been criticized. The victims have responded that no charges were filed for kidnapping or organized crime.
Paid out
On Friday, the verdict fell from the Bergen District Court, with another defeat for Reidar Osen, who is convinced the two defendants are behind.
The 37-year-old man was convicted of both assaults and received a sentence of five years and four months in prison. Here, the police had DNA evidence linking him to the case.
The 32-year-old was sentenced to two and a half years in prison for the theft of Slengesol, but was acquitted of the theft by Osen.
Petter’s fight against the kidnappers
The verdict highlights, among other things, searches from the man’s mobile phone, and he believes this may be in line with the fact that he was unaware of the Osen case at the time.
“Reidar Osen requested, and did not do a similar search in the Slengesol case, where he knew what had happened,” the court writes, stating:
“Participation in the first robbery is an argument of complicity in the second, but it does not carry much weight.”
– It’s a shame. The madness began when they were not charged with deprivation of liberty or organized crime. So this comes now … Reidar Osen says to Dagbladet.
Four years without an answer. This went wrong
The court was divided
The court was divided over the 32-year-old’s role in the Osen case. The majority of the court, the co-judges, believed that it was not proven beyond a reasonable doubt that he was involved.
District Court Judge Stein Dons Heinfjell disagreed.
Osen explains that his assistant attorney has informed him that it is common for the police to appeal in cases where the district court judge would request a conviction.
– The case must be appealed. If the police do not, the war will continue on my part. I do not give up. If not appealed, it is a declaration of war against me, he says.
– This should he appealed to the Court of Appeal. The police must use common sense now.
Police lawyer Jørgen Henriksen will not comment on Osen’s criticism.
– The police and the prosecution will read and review the verdict carefully and then consider the way forward, he tells Dagbladet.
– The kidnappers were going to bury me here
– satisfied
32-year-old defender Lukasz Niedzielski tells NRK that he is satisfied with the verdict.
– We are satisfied with what the court has concluded that the question of guilt is correct. The sentence is somewhat rigid, but you have to go back to that, he says.
The 37-year-old defender, Kim Villanger, says they will now review the verdict and consider a possible appeal.
On December 3, the case took a new turn when new DNA evidence appeared in the case. The 32-year-old man’s brother was involved in the case when his DNA appeared on Reidar Osen’s pants on the night in question.
TV 2 has reported that the man is wanted by Interpol.
