– The main focus has been to help and support those who are directly affected.

Here’s what Orkland Township Councilor Ingvill Kvernmo says.

The boy, who hails from Orkland, suffered serious internal injuries and died Thursday.

The boy was placed with caregivers at Levanger through the child welfare service. The people are charged under article 283 of the Penal Code for aggravated violence in close relationships.

Get help in a crisis

The child was less than a year old. The child’s biological parents are now receiving help from their home municipality, Orkland.

– Since we learned of this incident, we have followed up on the family with the municipality’s crisis team.

Kvernmo says that the family is naturally very heavy.

– Losing a child is perhaps one of the worst things you can go through, and it is clear that it affects the situation.

Supervision of various actors

The Trøndelag County Governor has opened a supervisory case to find out what happened.

– The reason is the seriousness of the case and not least because the public has taken care of the child, says the director of education and welfare of the Trøndelag County Governor, Erik Stene. Now they will find out what has happened and which actors have been involved.

He says the incident is deeply tragic.

Anchors of women, but not men

Both the man and woman accused deny having done anything wrong.

Per Ove Sørholt is defending the man.

– You don’t understand the accusation. Yesterday he was in preventive detention for four weeks and, in consultation with me, he decides not to appeal. He admits nothing criminal in this case, says Sørholt.

The woman is against custody and her defense attorney has appealed the sentence to the Court of Appeal.

Autopsies in the next few days

Now the child will have an autopsy.

– The autopsy is essential to clarify the cause of death, says prosecutor Line Dreier Ramberg.

The charge will not change until further notice.

– Continuous evaluation will be conducted as new information is entered, if the position needs to be changed.
