The municipality announces the exit in a press release on Friday.

Brita Øygard served as director of the health services agency in Bergen, before becoming temporary municipal chief physician and chief infection control physician earlier this fall.

The reorganization took place following the resignation of the head of infection control, Karina Koller Løland. She felt that she was not high enough in the system to be able to do her job.

In the last week, Øygard was on leave. He did not appear at the press conference called by the Bergen municipality until Monday, where health councilor Beate Husa addressed the health situation in the municipality.

Health Agency Councilor Beate Husa says in the press release that Øygard resigns to give the agency peace of mind in the pandemic department.

– It is demanding for an agency when there is so much attention around the management. I would like to congratulate Brita Øygard for choosing to resign to give the agency the necessary peace of mind in the demanding management of the pandemic, Husa says in the press release.

New job

At the same time that infection rates in Bergen have dropped, there has been a storm surrounding the health peaks in the municipality. BA wrote on Monday that the union steward for all GPs in Bergen does not trust Øygard. In another case of the newspaper, a former emergency manager criticized the management of the health service.

Øygard will now move to a new job in Councilor Roger Valhammer’s department. Specifically, you will be working on Samfunssikkerhetens hus.

– I am glad that a demanding situation has been resolved. I am grateful for all the support and positive feedback I have received from my colleagues and union delegates in the municipality in recent days, says Brita Øygard in the press release.

Acting department director Anne-Lise Hornæs will work in the position for three months. The position will be announced.

Harald Hauge will serve as City Chief Physician and Annette Corydon will work as Infection Control Physician early next week.

The municipality is working to find temporary solutions for the infection control role.
