So it was in the introductory groups:
Group A
France won the group stage after three consecutive victories. They contribute 4 points to the Main Round matches. Denmark won their first two matches, but had to surrender to France in the last. The team has 2 more points. Montenegro lost their first two games but defeated Slovenia in the third and secured more games, but with no points to take on. Slovenia is out and finishes 16th in the European Championship.
B Group
Russia won all three of its matches and enters the Main Round with 4 points. In second place in this group was Sweden, who won one (against the Czech Republic), played a draw (against Spain) and lost one (against Russia) in the group. They contribute a point to the Main Round. So does the third team, Spain.
The Czech Republic was last in this group, and the team finishes 15th in the European Championship.
Group C
Croatia managed all three of their group stage matches without scoring points. With a 24-22 victory against Hungary, 27-25 against the Netherlands and 25-24 against Serbia, they have 4 points in the Main Round. The other three teams in the group finished with two points. Holland captured second place and has 2 more points. Hungary was No. 3, and also progresses to the Main Round, but without points. Serbia is out of the European Championship and becomes number 13 in the championship.
Group D
Nobody managed to stop the Handball girls in the opening matches. Three beautiful victories, 35-22 against Poland, 42-23 against Germany and 28-20 against Romania were convincing. Norway starts in the Main Round with 4 points. Behind Norway, Germany finished No. 2, while Romania was No. 3. Germany leads 2 points more, Romania none. Poland is out of the European Championship and moves to 14th place in the 2020 European Championship.
The main round
The 12 teams participating in the European Championship now continue to play in two groups in the Main Round.
The two best of each group go to the semifinals, the two three will settle for 5th and 6th place in the EC.
