Most of the teachers at the Oslo school have rejected the collective agreement and wanted to go on strike.
The decision comes after a series of revelations at Dagbladet about spending money on the Education Agency.
The central board of the Education Association still overrides the teachers’ no and forces a yes to this year’s collective bargaining agreement. It was clear today.
– This has been a really difficult decision. It is not certain that the central board overrides a majority vote, even when support is too low for the result to be binding. It is the duty of the central board to take a final position when the referendum does not have a higher turnout, says Steffen Handal, leader of the Dagbladet Education Association.
Teachers were offered a 1.7 percent pay raise.
Directors have a pay party: Work for free
It’s the pandemic that is why teachers don’t get away with it, the Education Association tells Dagbladet.
– The reason is exclusively the extraordinary situation of the crown, which offers few opportunities to win in a conflict: the pandemic has hit the economy hard, working life has been given an almost unbreakable framework of 1.7 percent that is accepted by all workers’ associations, and not at least: The pandemic has already weakened the offer to children and young people so much that the central board does not want to hit them harder. Consideration for the children and students who have already lost so much to the pandemic weighed heavily, Handal continues.
After weeks of revelations about pay spreads, American leadership training and costly use of consultancies, Dagbladet was able to report today that the Oslo school is the weakest in the country on recent school contribution indicators.
Only 42 percent of the 9,000 teachers in Oslo participated in the referendum. Therefore, the result of the vote is only advice to the central board of the Education Association.
Dagbladet updates the case.
