Next Saturday, Ketil Solvik-Olsen would be chosen as the top candidate on the Rogaland Frp parliamentary list during the nomination meeting.
But on Wednesday morning, the former minister posted a somewhat surprising message on Facebook. He wants a place lower on the list.
It will probably rank sixth, according to Aftenbladet.
Can’t become party leader
One of the consequences is that in practice it is not relevant as a leader if there is a change in leadership in the next five years, according to the NRK political commentator.
– One of the biggest parties in the country should have a party leader who sits in the Storting, says Lars Nehru Sand.
On the other hand, it is possible that Solvik-Olsen will run for leader of the party in 2025.
You retire for family reasons
In the Facebook post, Solvik-Olsen writes that she is leaving the place for family reasons.
– My role in the coming years will therefore be a little different from what I thought, but I can promise you that the fighting spirit and commitment is just as great, he writes in the post.
NRK has failed to get a comment from Solvik-Olsen beyond what is in the post.
Open to become vice president
Solvik-Olsen will continue on the center board. He is open to stand for election as deputy leader of the Progress Party this spring if the party so wishes.
In August, deputy leader Terje Søviknes said he will not stand in the way of Solvik-Olsen if he wants to regain his previous position.
Solvik-Olsen tells Aftenbladet that he will not ask Søviknes to resign if he wants to continue.
But if he himself thinks this was temporary, as he said, then yes, I am happy to be a candidate for a vice-president position if the party wants it, Solvik-Olsen tells the newspaper.
It probably won’t weaken your reputation
In 2018, Solvik-Olsen resigned as Transport Minister and followed his wife to a medical job in the US Now he is again leaving a senior position for family reasons.
Political commentator Lars Nehru Sand does not believe the elections will weaken his position internally.
– Exactly for Solvik-Olsen, there is another exception to that. He has a very special status in the Progress Party. Both from his time as Minister of Transport and as a much loved deputy director.
Sand also believes that people will highly respect him for putting family first.
