On Wednesday, it became known that the National Institute of Public Health (NIPH) wants extended opening hours for stores and Vinmonopolet and therefore also the sale of alcohol outside the fixed hours that apply from today.
According to NTB, FrP leader Siv Jensen supports FHI’s contributions both in terms of opening hours and alcohol sales.
Updated 13:40: The government has decided not to change the opening hours of Vinmonopolet.
– Kjell Ingolf Ropstad and I met with Handel og Kontor og Virke and discussed recommendations for extended opening hours and additional infection control. We get clear feedback that these are not necessary measures. First, the stores already have very good infection routines. Plus, they have extra people at work and extra items. We cannot expect employees to line up more than they have already in a difficult year. And friends, we managed to plan the trade at Easter, and we can do it now, Trade and Industry Minister Iselin Nybø tells Dagbladet, continuing:
– It must be safe to buy, and the retailer has assured us that they follow infection control rules so that Christmas shopping is done properly.
Now they’re breaking records
You must see what is practically possible
Before the government press conference, we asked Vinmonopolet for a comment on the proposal of the National Institute of Public Health, and if they thought it was smart to extend the opening hours of polo stores.
Jens Nordahl, Vinmonopolet’s press manager, said about the FHI proposal that in the first instance they had to wait and see what the government would land on.
– It remains to be seen whether the government chooses to propose this as a measure. A possible decision to implement the measure will require a change in the Alcohol Law as a prerequisite for extending opening hours, Nordahl tells Dinside.
Should it be adopted by the government, Vinmonopolet has yet to comment on the proposal.
– We must discuss internally what is practically possible to implement and we do not know what is possible at the moment, Nordahl said.
Encourage Christmas shopping before December 15
– In general, we see that customers now buy at more different times than before. We have had client growth between Monday and Thursday for the last 4-5 weeks and a flattening this weekend. In addition, customers have moved a large part of their purchases from afternoon to morning, he adds.
Earlier this winter, Vinmonopolet encouraged its customers to complete their Christmas shopping before December 15th. They also have restrictions on how many customers can be inside the stores at the same time during heavy traffic and Plexiglas at checkouts.
