Solvik-Olsen (48) is retiring for family reasons, writes Stavanger Aftenblad. The decision is made before the nomination meeting at Rogaland Frp on Saturday.
– The most important thing is that the family works. So it must be like this this time. This has nothing to do with party, politics, or positions. It’s purely family considerations, Solvik-Olsen tells the newspaper.
The FRP politician says he will remain on the central board and opens to be vice president again at the national meeting this spring if the party so wishes.

Party leader Siv Jensen says she understands the decision.
– It is sad that Ketil does not want to run for the first place on our parliamentary list in Rogaland. Ketil loves family, and so do I. Therefore, I have no problem understanding that this has been a very difficult exchange for him, he writes in a text message to NTB.
– At the same time, Ketil makes himself available to the party. He is by no means lost to politics or to Rogaland. Now he needs to spend a little more time with the family, we must respect that, says Siv Jensen.
Ketil Solvik-Olsen has been one of the most central FRP profiles for many years. From 2013 to 2019 he was the second deputy leader of the party and from 2013 to 2018 he was Minister of Transport in the government of Erna Solberg.
In 2018, he resigned as prime minister to move with his family to the United States, but has now returned to Norway.
Long browsing time
The Solvik-Olsen message means that Roy Steffensen, who is currently chair of the education committee at the Storting, intends to top the Rogaland FRP list before the Storting elections. Terje Halleland succeeds him.
Steffensen thinks Solvik-Olsen’s message is sad and says he has a “huge position” at Rogaland.
– But at the same time I am glad that he is clear that he will be on the list, he will run for office, he will continue on the central board and through that role he will participate in group meetings every week, Steffensen tells NTB.
FRP currently has three parliamentary representatives from Rogaland.
