The eastern police district was suddenly buzzing with activity Monday morning, with three pedestrian collisions in Viken over the course of three-quarters of an hour.
In Moss, two people were injured. The first incident occurred in Ryggeveien. Minor injuries are reported. The second collision took place in Fjordveien, where the person in question was sent to hospital for examination.
Injuries
In Fredrikstad, a pedestrian was hit at the door by Jens Wilhelmsens. The extent of the damage is unknown and the person was taken to the emergency room by passersby.
– We assume all pedestrians have suffered minor injuries, says Operations Director Terje Nordang in the East Dagbladet Police District.
Prevent injuries
Now the police encourage everyone to use reflections and be clearly visible when traveling on the roads.
– Both weather and conditions mean it takes a lot of light and it becomes difficult to see, says operations manager Nordang.
– We hope it can prevent people from getting hurt, he continues.
Without stating that Monday’s collisions are due to a lack of reflexes, it’s a general spur to make yourself visible, he says.
Nordang says that soft road users and people on bicycles are most vulnerable. Overall, she believes there is always room for improvement when it comes to using reflection.
Trygg Trafikk’s Top Five Reflective Tips:
- Put reflectors on all jackets, bags and purses, then you will always have reflectors with you.
- Use two or more reflectors. So you are visible from all sides.
- The reflection looks better when it moves. Place the reflector on arms and legs.
- Hanging reflectors should hang at knee height for best possible effect.
- Reflectors are consumables that wear out over time. Replace old reflectors!
