It was on Wednesday of this week that the former teacher was sentenced to 13 years in prison.

The man has for several years paid people in the Philippines to directly commit child sexual abuse.

According to the verdict, the man participated in an aggravated rape of minors under 14 years of age.

Currently, the verdict is not final. The prosecution wanted to take the man into custody under the Criminal Procedure Act.

On Friday, therefore, the man was arrested by the police and on Saturday he was presented for imprisonment at the Nord-Troms District Court.

However, the district court decided to release the man.

– The case is very serious

The district court notes, among other things, that the man was held in pre-trial detention for just over a year between 2018 and 2019, and that there is nothing to indicate that he committed any new criminal offenses after his release.

Furthermore, it is noted that the case has been covered by local media, but has received little national attention.

In connection with the incarceration, the prosecutor in the case announced that he would appeal if the man was released. Therefore, the prosecutor requested that the man be detained until the case was heard in the Court of Appeal.

But the North Troms District Court also disagreed, so they chose to release the man until the Court of Appeal processes the request for incarceration.

Police attorney Linn Rognli Hansen says the police have deemed it would offend the public if the man were allowed to go free pending a final trial in the case.

– It is a penalty of 13 years for very serious abuse of minors. The case is very serious, and we also believe that the circumstances surrounding the abuse should also be important, he says, adding:

– It is a case that in our opinion has also been debated in the media over time, so the public is familiar with the case.

He claimed that the conversations were role play

Police learned of the man in 2018. He later worked as a teacher in Troms.

During a search of the man’s home, police found 291 hours of video of child abuse. Several thousand photos and a large number of call logs were also found on the man’s computer.

During the trial, the man explained that he had the abuse material because he had a plan to stop this type of abuse.

He also claimed that the call records found by the police did not prove that he had ordered the assault.

According to him, the conversations were a kind of role play, where the discussion is only fictional.

Over the years, the man has also sent up to a million crowns to recipients in the Philippines.

In February it emerged that the Troms police and the Philippine police cooperated in the case.

Among other things, this led to a five-year-old girl being removed from the apartment where she was abused in the Philippines.

Philippine TV filmed the action against one of the people whom the defendant allegedly ordered the abuse of. During the operation, a five-year-old girl was taken from the apartment.
