A man was bitten by a camel at Hammerfest on Thursday. The man was admitted to the North Norwegian University Hospital in Tromsø with moderate injuries.

The man in his 20s was bitten by the camel on Thursday afternoon in the fishing village of Akkarfjord in Hammerfest township.

It was iFinnmark who brought up the case for the first time.

– We don’t have many cases of this type here at the hospital. The man is slightly injured and we have been informed that the condition is stable. I can’t say anything about how long he stays in the hospital, says communications consultant Solveig Jacobsen at Northern Norway University Hospital to VG.

The camel that bit the man is called Bor and is owned by the Oddveig and Øystein Sætereng couple.

– We were on a shopping trip to Hammerfest and asked our neighbor to take care of the camels. Boron is in heat and is easy to remove from the enclosure. Our neighbor tried to get Bor back inside. I instructed him on what to do and what not to do, says Oddveig Sætereng.

It was while the man was trying to get the camel into the enclosure that his thigh was bitten and his artery ruptured.

They picked him up in an ambulance helicopter and sent him to Tromsø hospital.

The case is being investigated by the police.
