Cities like Oslo and Bergen have yet to announce whether they will introduce local recommendations related to Christmas celebrations. Thus, the national council that allows up to ten guests twice during Christmas in these cities does not apply.
Prime Minister Erna Solberg, Health Director Bjørn Guldvog and Department Director Line Vold at the National Institute of Public Health hope that Oslo and Bergen will announce their own Christmas tips.
– I will celebrate Christmas in Bergen, as I usually do, with my family and my sisters on Christmas Eve, among other things. Now we have to measure whether we have enough room for three cohorts around the table, otherwise we have to extend the kitchen table, Solberg tells Dagbladet.
Law in Bergen
In Bergen, private indoor gatherings with more than five people are prohibited, while in Oslo, private meetings with more than 10 people are prohibited. Councilman Roger Valhammer will likely have to make regulatory changes so Solberg can carry out Christmas Eve however he wishes.
– I think we’ll see when we find out what the local authorities of Bergen and Oslo do in the end. We still hope to have room for the family on Christmas Eve. The infection situation in Bergen has improved a lot, a lot, but they have to do those assessments. This is in the same way that we have said that in a couple of weeks we will return to our national assessments on what national measures should be maintained, says Solberg.
– So there will be a local Christmas council?
– We have made national changes, it is also up to Bergen and Oslo to evaluate their changes. But there is still a fairly high infection pressure in Oslo and some of the Østfold cities. Therefore, we must have respect because it is your doctors and infection control politicians who decide the rules for your cities.
Guldvogs Jul
Health director Bjørn Guldvog, for his part, can carry out his planned Christmas celebration with the crown rules that already exist for Oslo.
– There will be five, six or seven on Christmas Eve. We do not know yet. She is my wife, I am also our children. Then we will see if we collect all, or only some of them. “I don’t think it’s fully decided yet because someone has jobs that demand theirs during Christmas too,” Guldvog tells Dagbladet.
Guldvog says that naturally he has to wait and see how Oslo’s Christmas rules turn out.
– There must be local rules because the situation can be very different in different parts of the country. Of course, I’ll have to wait until I see what the Oslo rules will look like, but I think there will probably be a chance to have five guests in Oslo as well, I guess. In any case, we will not add more than that at home.
Violence also awaits
The department’s head, Line Vold, of the National Institute of Public Health, also says she is awaiting the Christmas rules from the Oslo municipality, with Councilor Raymond Johansen not having notified the local Christmas rules for Oslo at this time.
– It seems that I will also celebrate in Oslo. We are awaiting advice from the municipality of Oslo on how they intend to set this up with a view to the Christmas celebrations in Oslo, of course we will also follow that advice. For this reason, I want to celebrate with my family in line with the advice given here, and at the National Institute of Public Health we have always been clear that we believe it is correct to give local advice to adapt to the contagion situation, says Vold to Dagbladet.
Dagbladet asked Vold if there will be local Christmas rules for Oslo.
– Now a date has not been set for any special council for Oslo. But if nothing special happens, we follow the general advice that applies. Something special might come before Christmas. I don’t know at this point, says Vold.
High celebrates at the hostel
National or local regulations are not a relevant issue for Health Minister Bent Høie. He tells Dagbladet that he will celebrate Christmas with only one person.
– We plan to celebrate Christmas in the cabin, my husband and I. So I’m looking forward to it, although it would have been even more enjoyable to be with my in-laws, which was the original plan for this Christmas, Høie tells Dagbladet.
The Health Minister travels weekly to Oslo from Stavanger, where he stays on weekends. This is also where the cabin has to say. However, Høie encourages the people of Oslo to be very careful.
– It is necessary when the infection situation is different. It is important to say that if you live in Oslo, or live your life there, and you are going to travel at Christmas, then you must take extra precautions and be very careful. This is because you come from an area with higher infection pressure and that must be taken into account.
