After the corona pandemic broke out, the hospital has had gatekeepers who will make sure to prevent infection. Usually it is Securitas security guards who do this work, but on Wednesday 11 new security guards in Kristiansund went on strike.

Therefore, the city hospital must use its own staff for work. Nurse Elisabeth Slattlem is one of those who has agreed to be on call.

– It is stupid that they have gone on strike. I normally work in the ER, but now I have to stay here and watch the front door, Slattlem says.

The strike by the security guards is in its twelfth week. At midnight, send a new proposal to NHO to the Norwegian Trade Union Confederation.

The head of the Kristiansund Hospital clinic says that they now have relatively normal operations in the hospital, but that they continually assess whether they have good enough access to staff.

– Of course, we wish we could keep up with that word, but when there is a strike we must take whatever precautions we can.

NHO did not approve dispensing

County Workers’ Union Secretary Vidar Røren is shocked when NRK reports that there are nurses on duty at the hospital.

– If we had known that two of them had been in the hospital, we would not have taken them out. Since we don’t always know where the guards are, we are willing to grant a waiver, says Røren.

But they have not been allowed to do so.

Securitas has sent a waiver request to NHO Handel og Service, which they have rejected, without forwarding it to Arbeidsmandsforbundet.

– When the Norwegian Workers’ Union has chosen to remove the security guards who are assigned to the Kristiansund hospital, it is foreseeable that this could have consequences for the tasks of the hospital or for the operations, NHO writes to NRK.

They will only grant a dispensation if the consequences of the withdrawal were not foreseeable and they will deposit all the responsibility in the association.

Respond to rejection

Røren thinks the basic idea of NHO is strange.

– We don’t know where all the guards are when we make the withdrawal, but we would immediately approve the waiver if we could, Røren replies.

– Then it will be NHO’s problem. They get to take the plunge.

He fully understands that the hospital wants to fix it using its own staff.

– Nothing that has to do with the crown should be framed in any way. We understand that the hospital is desperate and we put people in, says Røren.
