Elkjøp announced on Tuesday with previous prices that have never existed.

In the wake of the Black Week sales week, electronics giant Elkjøp continues to advertise televisions for sale. In several announcements on Tuesday morning, the chain promised a discount of up to 10,000 kronor.

Two of Samsung’s models, the 65-inch Q95T 4K UHD QLED Smart TV QE65Q95TAT and the 85-inch Q60T 4K UHD QLED Smart TV QE85Q60TAU, were announced for sale for NOK 29,900. In the ad, Elkjøp wrote “Save 10,000”.

A check on the price comparison service prisjakt. Does not show that the TVs have never cost 39,900, but 29,900 crowns, on the contrary, is the highest price this year for both. However, a week ago you could buy them for 10,000 less crowns.

Elkjøp advertises both models, but the chain is far from the Prisjakt search engine, when we search for the models.

– It seems a lot against this

– When selling, the previous price must be indicated and the previous price must be real. The requirement is that the pre-price is from the period prior to the sale. If the price has changed, you can indicate the lowest previous price, says Jo Gjedrem, department director at the Norwegian Consumer Agency, who comments on sales prices generally.

Previously, a six-week period was the minimum requirement for pre-pricing. This requirement is practiced more flexibly now, but in any case there must have been some rotation of the item at the previously stated price.

– When we look at this, we present documentation requirements. We’ve had a review now during Black Week, and this is probably something that unfortunately seems a lot against it, says Jo Gjedrem.

– Technical error

Elkjøp explains the incorrect previous prices with system errors and technical errors:

– Here, an error has occurred in our systems, as the save / advance price has not changed at midnight, which was scheduled to happen automatically. This error is a combination of technical errors and delays in our systems. This was fixed early today, and we have worked to correct it on the products in question, Madeleine Schøyen Bergly, communications manager for Elkjøp Norgem said in an email to Nettavisen Tuesday afternoon.

Products became visible in marketing on Tuesday due to delays in systems supplying information to external partners, it says. That the products that are for sale in Elkjøp are not displayed on prisjakt.no, explains Schøyen Bergly as follows:

– Out of stock products are not displayed on PriceSpy. As for the products referenced here, they were out of stock in Black Week and are therefore not available for purchase or visible in the price comparison service. Now that we have several items in stock, the products will soon be visible on Prisjakt.no.

– It is not forbidden to ask

The evaluation under the Marketing Law is clear, says Gjedrem.

– People feel cheated and, if it cannot be documented that someone has bought the item for the previously stated price, the sale price is misleading.

As a private person, you have no legal right to receive documentation at an advance price:

– But it is not forbidden to ask! says Gjedrem, who otherwise encourages extensive use of price comparison services.

– Feel free to consult the price image for one year. Then it quickly becomes clear whether an offer is real or not.
