Earlier, Helge thought that drug addicts have to thank themselves. That was before he put his first syringe when he was 30 years old.

Right after A magazine’s relaunch 15 years ago, we published the first article on drug addicts Helge Roll-Lund. For a year we continued Has’s fight against intoxication. This was the first part of the series on Helge, and the article was published in A magazine on November 4, 2005. At the bottom of the case, you can read how he feels today.

Helge Roll-Lund (32) puts a syringe with heroin for breakfast. Three hours later, he takes a glass of water from the dispenser of the Beggar Magazine = Oslo newsroom.

Today is lunch.

Kirkegata’s room is painted white. The only pops of color are two black leather sofas. In one, a woman tries to wake her husband. Helge sneaks out to buy the first stack of magazines of the day. Around his neck hang a lucky green-haired troll, an eagle and a medallion. The lean body is slightly leaning forward. In the middle of the room he stops and slaps with his arms:

– I want to go to Spain! I have to detox. I can’t stand this life.

The gaze roams the room. Nobody catches it. It’s August 22nd and just a few days ago a man handed you a brochure about detoxification in Spain. Usually he would have thrown it away. But this time he took care of it. For the past two months, Helge has been selling = Oslo instead of begging people for money. If you sell 60 magazines a day, you won’t be abstinent.
