The Norwegian Meteorological Institute has issued a warning for much of eastern Norway. Freezing rain can make driving conditions very demanding, and meteorologists are asking road users to be more careful and to calculate overtime.
– Right now it’s cold in much of eastern Norway, but warm air comes in during the day. In the transition between warm and cold air, it can get very cold near the ground, at the same time it starts to rain. Then the incoming rain can freeze when it hits the ground, says Magnus Ovid, a meteorologist on duty at the Dagbladet Meteorological Institute.
– Low clouds and snowfall
It says the hazard warning is temporary and was initially announced to take place today.
– The warm air is temporary, and tomorrow it will be a little colder again, says the meteorologist on duty.
He says a small high pressure ridge may still remain over eastern Norway throughout the week.
– At this time of year it can mean low cloud cover and light snowfall.
But winter has not yet arrived, he says.
Wet and gray
In the rest of the country, the climate is quite stable, according to the meteorologist on duty.
– There may be snow showers all day tomorrow in Northern Norway. There will be some precipitation today in most of the country, with the exception of Finnmark, and some temporary weather on Tuesday, says Ovid.
It won’t be covered, but it will be mostly gray and a little wet across the country during the week.
– Pretty normal weather for this time of year, says the meteorologist.
