“For the first time in history, these communication functions will be filled exclusively by women,” said a statement from Biden and future Vice President Kamala Harris.
It should be noted that there are also more women in the current White House press staff.
“Direct and truthful communication to the American people is one of the most important tasks of a president, and this team will have an enormous responsibility to connect people with the White House,” Biden said in the statement.
The women described as experienced and talented are Elizabeth E. Alexander (First Lady Director of Communications), Kate Bedingfield (White House Director of Communications), Ashley Etienne (Vice President Director of Communications), Karine Jean-Pierre (Under Secretary for Press) , Jen Psaki (White House Press Secretary Symone Sanders (Senior Vice President and Vice President) and Pili Tobar (White House Deputy Communications Director).

The communications team will be led by Kate Bedingfield, who was also the communications director for Biden’s election campaign apparatus. Jen Psaki, who has been a longtime spokesperson for the Democratic Party, gets the role of press secretary.

In total, seven women have been appointed to managerial positions.

The appointments reflect Biden’s stated desire to build a diverse team in the White House.
