The meteorologist struggles to interpret the weather, but comes with a clear warning.

– This week will be a very variable weather. From night to Sunday it was minus 20 degrees in several places in Norway, and on Monday it will be mild again. This roller coaster weather continues every day of next week, says Mariann Aabrekk, a meteorologist at StormGeo.

Because while it has been cooler in much of Norway this weekend, the mild weather is reaching inland.

– It is a low pressure that is off the coast and goes to Norway. It will cause mild weather and rainfall across Norway on Monday. The only exception are Troms and Finnmark, where there will be several clouds, says the meteorologist.

Opportunities for snow

Around 20 to 40 millimeters of precipitation have been reported in western Norway on Monday. In the Oslo area and inland, up to 10 millimeters have been reported, but the meteorologist cannot interpret what kind of precipitation is coming.

– It is almost impossible to say how the precipitation is coming, because there are so many temperature fluctuations locally. Precipitation can also come as snow, then sleet, and then rain later, says the meteorologist.

– There may be snow in southern Norway. The question is whether temperate weather comes before precipitation. In the mountains and parts of the interior, there will likely be snow, but not in large amounts, he says.

Smooth mirror

Due to the changing weather, the meteorologist has a warning for those who are going to hit the road.

– The truth is that it can be very slippery. We are in a cold situation, but we go to the heat and then it becomes cold again. This will cause moisture – whether it’s fog, rain that’s already on the ground or rain that’s falling – to ice the road, the meteorologist explains.

The Meteorological Institute also has a clear message for those who are going to hit the road.

– Since lunchtime on Monday, there is a danger of rain freezing to the ground in parts of eastern Norway. We have sent a yellow warning. Match the conditions and drive carefully, they write on Twitter.

Sudden change

The mild weather that hits the country on Monday won’t last long. North winds are reported on Tuesday.

– From night to Tuesday, it is a sudden change to north wind. Then it will be good weather with sunshine in most of southern Norway. The only downside to good weather is that it’s cold, says Aabrekk.

Temperatures will hover around 5 degrees below zero in Oslo and the rest of southern Norway. For the northernmost part of the country, clouds will characterize the sky.

– Good weather will apply from Oslo to Bodø, but it looks like it will be cloudy. For Troms and Finnmark, there will be snow showers all week, explains the meteorologist.

Another turn

The north wind that is cold on Tuesday seems to disappear again on Wednesday.

– Then the weather will change again. What we see is that from Wednesday there will be a south wind that will give a relatively mild climate, he says.

Snow showers will continue in the north, while in the south the grade will slide on the positive side into the weekend.

– In the lowlands, there will be more degrees towards the weekend. For the Oslo area and western Norway, the degrees will be between four and five degrees. It’s going to be a bit cloudy, which means that we won’t get the temperature to drop at night, says the meteorologist.
