The national team skiers that Nettavisen spoke with in Beitostølen last weekend believe it was right for the Norwegian Ski Association to continue the collaboration with Petter Northug.
BEITOSTØLEN (Nettavisen): Earlier this month, the Norwegian Ski Federation issued a press release in which they made it clear that Petter Northug will continue to sponsor the show for the national team support staff.
It was long uncertain whether the ski association would continue the collaboration with the former cross country star after they took him skiing this summer. Police also found cocaine in Northug’s apartment, who later admitted to having a substance abuse problem.
Iversen: – Instead
Former teammate Emil Iversen believes that it is absolutely correct that the Norwegian Ski Association is continuing the collaboration with Northug.
– I think he’s in his place. Sounds good, so we can expect it to go a little more smoothly now. He has put all the cards on the table and laid them down, so I stay behind, Iversen tells Nettavisen.

Finn Hågen Krogh believes that everyone who has done something wrong deserves a new chance.
– I like that people have a second chance, so I think it’s good that they don’t show their backs. Of course, demands must be made, but I like that people get a second chance, Krogh tells Nettavisen.

Johaug: – A choice they must defend.
The national team coach of the national speed team, Arild Monsen, is also aware that it makes sense to leave the events of this summer behind.
– I think it was perfectly fine. It was also a bad thing for him personally. That we are helping to give him and the company a chance and that we are agreeing to a spectacular deal, I think it’s perfectly fine, Monsen tells Nettavisen.

Therese Johaug says she is confident the Ski Association has had constructive discussions with Camp Northug before making the decision.
– I think it is a choice that the Ski Federation should defend. They probably had a good dialogue with the Northug and Petter brand about it, Johaug tells Nettavisen.
Røthe: – The only right thing
Sjur Røthe has been a colleague of the Northug national team for several years. He doesn’t hide the fact that the Norwegian Ski Federation’s collaboration with Northug has been an issue in the environment this summer and fall.
– I have thought a lot and I have discussed it with others. It is, of course, a natural theme that has come up. I believe that the only correct thing is to continue collaboration and dialogue, put things on the table and be clear about things. Then you agree on the way forward and what the following premises are. I think it’s very important, Røthe tells Nettavisen.
– There will always be challenges. So it is with all endorsements, but it’s clear he’s been in a special position as Petter is one of the main reasons cross-country skiing is as popular as it is today, says Røthe.

Vossingen says he distances himself from Northug’s actions, but supports that the Ski Association has chosen to continue the collaboration with the Trøndelag resident.
Skistad on role model: – I continue to support Petter
Kristine Stavås Skistad on the Norwegian national recruiting team has had Northug as her great role model. He is pleased that the Ski Association continues to support Northug. She also intends to do the same.
– I continue to support Petter I and. I think we all make mistakes. It may not have been the best mistake to make, but at the same time I hope you learn from it. It could have ended even worse. We can be happy that he was caught and that he can do something with his life, Stavås Skistad tells Nettavisen.
Several well-known cross-country skiers have an agreement with the Northug Show Company. Among them are the Swedish Frida Karlsson and Calle Halfvarsson. Maiken Caspersen Falla and Helene Marie Fossesholm also wear Northug glasses.
This weekend, Nettavisen was also able to reveal that Beitostølen’s opening comet, Mikael Gunnulfsen, has agreed with Northug on a sponsorship deal.
