At the end of October he resigned as president of the think tank International Peace Institute (IPI) after 15 years in office. The background was connections to the abuser and financier Jeffrey Epstein.

A review of the tax forms reported to US tax authorities shows that in the 14 years reported since 2005, it received about $ 6.7 million from IPI, writes Dagens Næringsliv.

With historical prices, this corresponds to just under NOK 45 million.

– Obviously too much salary has been paid here. It is now up to the Auditor General’s Office and the Foreign Ministry whether it is natural for this to be included in their investigation, says the chair of the Foreign Relations Committee at the Storting, Anniken Huitfeldt (Labor).

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has supported IPI with NOK 116 million during Rød-Larsen’s term as director. The money transfers are currently being investigated by the Office of the Auditor General.

– The generous amount of money from the board on the CEO is surprising and reckless. Both because the person in question had already been hired for the position with a lower salary level, and because such compensation is largely reserved for commercial companies that compete internationally, says Conservative Party foreign policy spokesman Michael Tetzschner.
