The fact that 12 new deaths were registered in the statistics of the National Institute of Public Health on Friday is not due, therefore, to the fact that there have been 12 deaths in the last 24 hours.
– There is a delay in reporting due to technical problems with the extraction of information from the MSIS (the national infectious disease notification system, journal.anm.) Earlier this week, FHI states.
All 12 deaths are from this or last week. In the last three weeks a total of 38 deaths have been registered.
– There is a greater increase in deaths in recent weeks than we previously reported. This mainly applies to older people in whom covid-19 has been registered as a cause of death. The last recorded deaths were residents of multiple counties, and the deaths occurred in both hospitals and nursing homes, says department director Line Vold at FHI.
He says that this is unfortunately not unexpected and shows once again how important it is to protect vulnerable groups.
The total mortality in Norway in 2020 so far is not higher than that recorded in recent years.
