Very secretly, a group of White House employees have begun contacting incoming President Joe Biden to ensure a smooth transition period.
A handful of employees and former employees, in sheer frustration that Donald Trump refuses to acknowledge electoral defeat, have taken matters into their own hands. They have contacted Biden’s camp, to ensure a good transfer of power, according to CNN.
– It’s not something we would have had a problem with. It’s just an offer of help. They know what we mean and what we can and cannot say and do, a Trump employee tells CNN.
Biden’s camp confirms that they have been contacted, but emphasizes that a transition period depends on more than one contact under the table.
You cannot start until the federal GSA declares a winner. Usually this doesn’t happen until the losing candidate admits defeat.
It doesn’t look like Trump is going to do that in the first place. The Trump camp continues its fight against the election result, but finds little support for its claims in the judiciary.

Controversial count in progress
On Wednesday, however, a recount was released in Wisconsin’s two largest counties that Biden won. The Trump campaign has pocketed $ 3 million for the recount, claiming the counties were responsible for “the worst wrongdoing,” without any evidence being produced.
The count seems to be a blind shot anyway. Biden leads with 577,455 votes to Trump’s 213,157 in the two counties, and in the state as a whole, the Democratic candidate won by more than 20,000 votes.
– A selective recount will not be able to change the outcome of the election, says Biden’s campaign spokesman Nate Evans.
Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett calls the referendum an attack on cities and minorities. Democrat Mark Thomsen responds that Trump has targeted two counties and not the entire state.
– It’s like losing the Super Bowl and then saying that I want some attacks to be judged by a different rule than the one used for the rest of the game. This is the essence of hypocrisy, deception and dishonesty, says Thomsen.
– The end of democracy as we know it
While the count in Wisconsin is going well, it appears that Trump’s side has changed strategy after suffering multiple defeats in court, writes AP.
Now it is about attacking the very process that is taking place in the electoral districts, in the hope that they will disapprove of the result.
In Michigan, two Republican poll workers tried to stop approval of the election result, although they had no evidence of election fraud. In Arizona, the same is happening in constituencies in the countryside.
There is no precedent for Trump’s attempt to postpone and undermine approval of the election result, says law professor Joshua Douglas of the University of Kentucky.
– It will be the end of democracy as we know it. This is simply something that cannot happen, he says.
Silent recognition in the Senate
As Biden’s camp continues its work to prepare for the inauguration, despite problems with the transition period not formally underway, Republican leaders are still sitting on the boat.
At the same time, there are also several signs that even Trump’s uncompromising friends are quietly acknowledging Biden as the election winner. When incoming Vice President Kamala Harris returned to the Senate this week, several Republicans congratulated her and Senior Senator Lindsey Graham greeted her with a fond nod.
It was seen as a sign that Republicans behind closed doors admit what few will say publicly – that Joe Biden is the winner of the election and that he and Harris will move into the White House in January.
According to two senators, it was also an issue when Mark Meadows, Trump’s chief of staff, visited Republicans in the Senate and asked them to seize the opportunity during Trump’s last 45 days in the White House.
“But I have to be honest with you and tell you that you said there could be 45 days left, or four years and 45 days,” said Senator John Cornyn of Texas.
