Mats Møller Dæhli (25) put in a heroic effort as captain when Norway played 1-1 against Austria last night. Then he was blank, and very moved, in an interview that was shown on TV 2.
– This was a sick experience. I am incredibly proud of the spark and achievement we show today, Dæhli stated, not hiding the fact that it has been a very rough fall.
The 25-year-old has been out of the team a lot and has received ruthless treatment from critics for what he has done at Belgian Genk.
Tears from television make Dæhli’s good friend Barcelona and national team player Caroline Graham Hansen react to what her friend has had to go through.
Few know better about Dæhli’s injuries and adversities, before yesterday he represented Norway as captain, the greatest honor that can be had as a soccer player.
– Few understand, writes Graham Hansen on Instagram.
– But everyone wants something, everyone wants to mean something, everyone wants to be something.
With an image of a focused and goal-oriented Dæhli at the Ernst Happel Stadium, he continues:
– The work you put in that you never see. That which is a matter of course. You are not allowed to be tired. Because emotions must be put aside. You have to put up with shit. We all suffer. You who are a professional and earn money.

– Sipping is not allowed. Man up before your reputation burns. Mats, on the other hand, dares to be strong, to war, to fight and then to show that we all have something dear. Stand on it alone far away, while caring for others with greater presence. So thank you for daring to show emotion. Thank you for worry. Thanks for being the way you are. Captain of your beloved Norway. Royal warriors. True friend. Real man!
Norway was a big loser in the Nations League group final. It almost led to victory. But 1-1 still means the nation has new pets.
The boys of the A team praise the effort and have taken to social networks.
– Norway is proud of you, writes Martin Ødegaard on Instagram.
– For a team, reports Sander Berge.
– That he becomes captain of Norway in such a kind of match, and that we stand up in this way, is absolutely fantastic, says Møller Dæhli.
