A 19-year-old man had his driver’s license revoked after a major traffic accident in Bøneset, on the outskirts of Sortland, on Wednesday night.

Seven have been sent to Stokmarknes hospital with varying degrees of damage after the accident, but no one should be seriously injured under the circumstances.

The extent of the damage is assessed from mild to moderate injuries, writes Nordland Hospital, adding that a total of six ambulances arrived at the crash site.

Two helicopter ambulances were also called in, but they were reassigned because the extent of the damage did not indicate they were necessary. In addition, two doctors rushed to the scene.

Exit in the opposite lane

Nordland Police District Operations Manager Remi Johansen says many of those involved will be teenagers.

– We were notified at 8:37 p.m. of a traffic accident. After we got to the scene, we saw that there were three vehicles involved with a total of ten people involved.

According to the operations manager, one vehicle had stopped for another to go off the road. He did not see a third vehicle, which did not slow down.

– The car pulled into the opposite lane and got into the oncoming car.

So far there are no suspicions of driving under the influence of drugs, but the license of the driver who entered the car will be revoked.

Many teenagers involved

In total, eight of the ten involved are between the ages of 19 and 15, police confirmed to NRK.

Now the police will postpone the rest of the interrogations until tomorrow.

– Right now we are in the hospital to take a final breath test and get the physical driver’s license and create a case for the 19-year-old. In the act, the road is open again. There will probably be multiple interrogations later, but it’s no longer a priority today, says Johansen.

A family center has been established at the hospital. Family members are asked to contact the main entrance, where they are directed to the family center.

Late Wednesday night, the disaster alarm will end at the hospital.
