A child admitted to Haukeland University Hospital died Wednesday of a Covid-19-related illness. Haukeland writes on Twitter.

The boy had a severe underlying diagnosis.

– For privacy reasons and in accordance with the wishes of the family, we do not comment further on the matter, writes Haukeland.

The death is the 44th in Bergen and the second to be reported on Wednesday.

Earlier, the Bergen municipality stated that a resident of the Løvåsen nursing home in Bergen had died of coronary heart disease.

Will not reveal the site of infection

Erik Vigander, Director of Communications for Bergen Health, does not want to answer whether the boy was infected in Haukeland.

– We do not want to say anything other than what is written there for the sake of relatives, says Vigander.

Death is the second in the 0-39 age group in Norway, the FHI summary shows.

Høie: – Some of the worst we can experience

Health Minister Bent Høie (H) sends thoughts to the boy’s family.

– Today we have been told that a child has lost his life as a result of a disease related to Covid-19. My thoughts and my condolences go out to the family members who are now in the midst of pain and longing. Losing a child is one of the worst things humans can experience, Høie says in a press release.

It is very rare for children and youth, including children in risk groups, to become seriously ill and die, the ministry writes.

Few children have been admitted

From March to November, 19 children in the 0-15 age group have been admitted to the hospital with COVID-19, according to figures BT has received from the Norwegian Pandemic Registry.

A total of five children and young people aged 0 to 17 have been admitted to Helse Bergen in the same period.

– Considering how many children have been diagnosed with the infection, I think it is a very low proportion, Håvard Trønnes, chief physician of the children and adolescents clinic at Haukeland University Hospital told BT last week.

Figures from the National Institute of Public Health (NIPH) show that 988 children up to the age of ten have been diagnosed with covid-19, by. November 11th. For the 10-20 age group, the number is 2781.
