A week and a half ago, Oslo closed all gyms as a measure to reduce the spread of the infection. Soon after, Lillestrøm followed.
Then the fitness lovers fled to Asker and Bærum, who also had to close down. Several gyms have announced increased demand from people living in other municipalities, despite Prime Minister Erna Solberg’s request to stay home as long as possible.
Comedian Ørjan Burøe lives in Ski, but recently replaced his closed gym in Norde Follo with the ACE gym in Askim, writes Smaalenenes Avis. Avisa also printed a screenshot of a training session posted on the comedian’s Snapchat account on Tuesday.
– I’m very upset. We do our best to reduce the infection. “We have denied that people enter and we have said so on our website,” the center’s general director, Roddy McLoud, told the newspaper.
– It makes me mushroom
Ørjan Burøe emphasizes to Dagbladet that he has not started training at Askim just because his closest center is closed.
– I have been a member there for several months. They have a good deal with climbing and squash, so I can also take the kids to train. When the centers in Ski closed, I thought “how lucky I am then”, who can go there, he says.
At the same time, the comedian regrets not having sat down deeply enough on the recommendation not to cross the municipal boundary to train at the center.
– I respect 100 percent the recommendations and the infection control rules, and I am left face down because I have not read them well enough.
It no longer helps to hide
However, Burøe is critical of gym closings in general, as very few cases of infection can be traced here. He believes that the authorities pay very little attention to physical and mental health.
– Exercise is incredibly important for the body and mind, especially in this dark time. I would have found out if they had lousy infection numbers in the gym, but they don’t. I myself am in a risk group and I take my precautions, but I think it is strange that the centers have to close, while the shopping centers can remain open, he says.
Won’t turn off again
The infection control doctor at Indre Østfold, Barbro Kvaal, says the municipality is currently experiencing more people from nearby municipalities with closed centers coming to exercise.
– Both Østfoldbadet and the gyms have come with a strong request that “refugees in training” not come here. We do not believe that you agree with greater pressure on our municipality.
Indre Østfold was severely affected by the covid infection already in early spring, and in August the municipality had to implement very strict measures for a shorter period to control the “uncontrollable” infection situation.
– We don’t want to close again. We are monitoring and keeping the situation under surveillance, but we have yet to properly sound the alarms. It is deep inside. We want everyday life to run as normally as possible, and then we need to take some considerations into account, Kvaal says.
On average, the municipality now has three new cases of infection per day and, among other things, has taken a class step to come out of quarantine after two proven cases of infection. The infection control doctor is also more satisfied with the testing ability, which ensures the efficiency of infection detection work.
