For the other accused, a 23-year-old man, the complaint is 16 years in detention.

– Violence similar to torture, severe, very rude and sadistic that lasted for several hours.

This is how the prosecutor Arvid Malde described the murder of Sigbjørn Sveli on the night of December 9 last year.

– The risk of recurrence is very high for both, says Arvid Malde.

He believes the 23-year-old should have a somewhat lower sentence, in part because he has mild mental retardation.

– For the 24-year-old, however, there is nothing mitigating, Malde believes.

The 24-year-old says he does not remember what he did because he was under the influence of the drug prednisolone.

-But through four police interrogations, he has explained the facts in detail, says the prosecutor.

In the proceedings, Malde went through everything that happened to the random victim Sveli on the night of the murder.

The descriptions are so cruel that the details cannot in any way be reproduced in public.

In Jæren District Court, the prosecutor withdrew the following criminal charges:

  • 23 years: Detention for 16 years with a minimum term of 10 years.
  • 24 years: Detention for 21 years with a minimum period of 10 years.

– That the 24-year-old should have the most severe punishment of the law is completely unquestionable. This is one of the worst murders in Norway from the newspapers, the prosecutor believes

Drug-laden childhood

Hours earlier, court-appointed psychiatrist Johannes Skaar testified about the youngest murder defendant.

Skaar drew a picture of a 23-year-old with an extremely tragic upbringing.

The boy grew up in a drug addicted family and began to be intoxicated with alcohol at the age of nine, first with alcohol, then with hashish, and then with amphetamines and heroin.

I found the car of the deceased

After the murder, the killers dumped Sveli’s car in the port of Ølberg, a couple of kilometers from the scene.

In the time before the murder last fall, he was not followed up by the specialized health service. There was no net that could catch it.

Johannes Skaar believes there is an imminent danger that the 23-year-old will commit more serious crimes if he continues a drugged and unstructured life.

– Works at a very poor level in daily life. He’s actually like a 10-year-old, says Skaar.

– No emergency brakes

According to the psychiatrist, the 23-year-old has shown no remorse for the murder.

– On the contrary, it describes Sveli in a degrading way, says Skaar.

– There are no emergency brakes to hit him, no ability to think consistently, continues the psychiatrist.

Skaar believes, unlike the prosecutor, that the 23-year-old has nothing to do in custody.

– In Ila, you want to establish contacts between criminals who are not good for their later release.

May receive forced care

The 23-year-old’s IQ is estimated to be around 60, with a certain degree of uncertainty. This is in the lower border country to be punished.

If the court finds that the 23-year-old’s cognitive functions are too poor, it may decide that he should be sentenced to compulsory care.

In that case, he will be transferred to an institution, first to Brøset at St. Olav Hospital in Trondheim for further investigation.

The trial ends on Wednesday with the proceedings of the defenders.
