– The man is unfortunately dead. We have it confirmed. It is the driver of the car who has died, duty station manager Wenke Hope at Florø police station tells BT.

At the moment, the police will not reveal the age of the deceased.

– He is a foreigner and family members have not been notified. It may be a while before they are, Hope says.

Police were notified of the accident on Monday morning at 11:21.

A car with two men had ended up in the water at a Kalvåg pier in Bremanger.

One man got out and the other was trapped in the car. He had been underwater for more than 40 minutes, when the car was picked up with a tow truck at 12.04.

The man received immediate life-saving first aid and was transported to Haukeland by helicopter.

– Must have back

– The road where the accident occurred is narrow. The crashed car is said to have encountered another vehicle, allegedly backing off a cliff and ending up in the sea, operations manager Knut Dahl-Michelsen in the West Police District told BT on Monday.

– Slightly damaged

The other man in the car made it to the ground. He was taken by helicopter to Førde hospital.

– He is described as slightly injured, says Hope.

According to the police service manager, there is no cast edge on the road where the accident occurred.

It must have been the driver of the approaching car who reported the accident.

The accident site of the Norwegian Public Roads Administration will inspect and examine the accident site during the week.

– The police have had an investigation at the crime scene and we continue with the interrogations, says Hope.
