It will be a Nations League match between Norway and Austria.

Late on Sunday night, the Norwegian Football Association confirms that the Norwegian national team will travel to Vienna to play the deciding match of the Nations League on Wednesday.

At the same time, they confirm that they will line up a reserve team made up of players from foreign clubs with the exception of one player who has had a crown.

Under-21 coach Leif Gunnar Smerud will lead the team, writes NFF.

– Despite a special entrance, I hope to meet the players, who in a chaotic situation have responded with great good will to help the team in a demanding situation. Now it’s about preparing for a good showing against Austria, says Smerud, acting director of the national team.

Tested for crown in Norway

The association will not present the template until Monday.

The new squad will meet first in Norway and Gardermoen. There, players will check into an airport hotel where they will be tested for the coronavirus.

On Tuesday, the road continues to Vienna, where a match will be played on Wednesday.

NFF states that the Norwegian Health Directorate and the Ministry of Health have approved the new scheme.

NFF General Secretary Pål Bjerketvedt is happy that the game is now being played.

– These have been demanding evaluations, but now we are happy that the match can be played, both sportingly and out of consideration of our obligations to UEFA and the tournament in which we participate. The boys themselves and their clubs have been very positive to line up on short notice. to complete this match, says Bjerketvedt.

Several have been contacted

The NFF has had to put together an “emergency national team” after the original national team ended up in quarantine as a result of Vice Captain Omar Elabdellaoui being diagnosed with coronary heart disease earlier this week.

Sunday began in relation to contact with Norwegian players abroad who could be relevant to the match.

The online newspaper has been in contact with several of them.

Ghayas Zahid, Daniel Granli, Håkon Evjen, Fredrik Gulbrandsen, Håvard Nielsen, Fredrik Ulvestad and Tokmac Nguen are among those contacted by the NFF with a view to playing the game against Austria on Wednesday. The latter, however, has had to say no as a result of an injury.

Zahid, who usually plays for APOEL in Cyprus, says he is ready to play for Norway, but on Sunday night he tells Nettavisen that he has not yet received any information on when he will fly to Oslo.

Positive players

Andreas Hanche-Olsen has also been contacted and is ready to play for Norway, confirms to Nettavisen.

– Yes, they contacted me. I am ready to travel to Austria and play the game if everything can be solved, says the player from Ghent to Nettavisen.

Jørgen Strand Larsen in Groningen, the Netherlands, also received a phone call.

– They contacted me. They wondered if he was ready, if that was the solution. But it still seemed a bit uncertain, Strand Larsen told Nettavisen.

Håkon Evjen has also told Nettaivsen that he is sure to be on his feet and that AZ Alkmaar has given him the green light.

According to VG, TV 2 and iTromøs, the following players have also confirmed that they have been contacted to play in a possible Norwegian squad:

Andreas Vindheim (Sparta Prague)

Mathias Dyngeland (Elfsborg)

Sondre Tronstad (Vitesse)

Julian Ryerson (Berlin Union)

Fredrik Ulvestad (Djurgården)

Kristoffer Askildsen (Sampdoria)

Ulrik Yttergård Jenssen (North Zealand) – out of date due to injury

Ruben Gabrielsen (Toulouse)

Kristian Thorstvedt (Genk)

Anders Kristiansen (Union St-Gilloise)

Mats Møller Dæhli (Genk)

Jørgen Skjelvik (OB)

Zlatko Tripic (Goztepe)

Veton Berisha (Viking)

Håvard Nielsen (Greuther Fürth) – outdated due to injury

Therefore, several of the above names will likely come forward as Norway’s emergency solution on Monday.

In addition, there is an opening for players from the original squad who can prove that they have already had a crown, to join Austria.

This probably applies to Jens Petter Hauge, among others, but also Martin Ødegaard, according to VG, must have been infected in the last six months.

However, as Nettavisen reported early Sunday, Ødegaard has already returned to Madrid and it is highly uncertain whether it is relevant to the Austria match.

Group final against Austria

Norway should have played Romania in the Nations League on Sunday night, but the match was canceled due to the original team having to be quarantined.

But even without three points against Romania, Norway still has a chance to win the Nations League group.

Austria currently leads the group with twelve points, three points ahead of Norway. Therefore, the Norwegian team will remain with the same number of points if they manage to beat Austria on Wednesday.

But since Austria won the first deal in Oslo 2-1, Norway is at least dependent on such a good result, as mutual agreement counts more than goal difference.

Austria is also a big favorite, as Norway has to do without its best men.
