The infection outbreak in Lyngdal is no longer under control, the municipality says. – There are many who are anxious, says the mayor.
– So many cases of infection complicate the situation and complicate the monitoring of the infection. This is now a large number of close contacts that must be quarantined, writes the municipality.
Just over 50 corona cases are related to Lyngdal Township, Mayor Jan Kristensen (H) told NTB on Sunday night.
– There are many who are anxious, says the mayor, who emphasizes that large-scale tests have been initiated to clarify the extent of the infection.
Close six schools
For VG, the mayor says that the municipality has decided to keep six schools closed on Monday. They are Årnes School, Å Primary School, Kvås School, Lyngdal Secondary School and Lyngdal Christian Primary School and Byremo Inter-Municipal Secondary School.
– We sincerely hope that schools can reopen already on Tuesday, says Kristensen.
About 300 kindergarten and school children have been tested for the virus, the municipality says.
You can continue measurements
On Sunday night, new crisis meetings and an extraordinary meeting of the presidency will take place. A decision will be made on Monday to continue with the measures that were introduced this weekend.
The measures imply the prohibition of cultural and sporting events and congregational gatherings. Restrictions can also be entered for restaurants and nightclubs.
The residents of the municipality are also encouraged to stay at home as long as possible. Visitors to residences and institutions are asked to wear face masks.
Outbreaks seem to be exacerbated during religious gatherings
The outbreak in Lyngdal is related in particular to five religious gatherings in a Romanian congregation. On Sunday, three new people from the environment were diagnosed with corona.
-This means that at this time there are 29 people from this ethnic background who have now been diagnosed with infection, writes the municipality.
350 of the municipality’s inhabitants have been quarantined. The municipality fears that the 150 who attended the opinion meetings have become infected, writes NRK.
The southern municipalities of Lindesnes, Farsund, Kvinesdal and Hægebostad implemented an event ban this weekend until Tuesday after the outbreak.
Language washers
According to the municipality, a Romanian group organized five meetings in Bethany in Lyngdal from Friday 6 to Tuesday 10 November. Between 75 and 105 people must have been present at a time.
According to municipal doctor Henriette Pettersen, language difficulties are one reason the parish community has not received the latest restrictions for events.
Prime Minister Erna Solberg (H) told NTB on Sunday that she wants to end the contagion against immigrants. He also denies that the government did a poor job of providing information to immigrant groups.
– But there will always be groups of people who do not understand the rules that the Norwegian authorities have, he tells NTB.
