On Saturday at 4:20 p.m., the Troms police district reported a traffic accident in Vannøya.
A car and a moped were involved. There was one person in the car and two on the scooter.
The accident must have occurred at the ferry dock, approx. one kilometer towards Vannvåg.
Danger of evasion
One person on the scooter has been confirmed dead and the other is at UNN.
The driver has been arrested.
– The driver of the car has been arrested for danger of evasion. The course of events has not been clarified, but what we do know is that the driver does not have a driver’s license, the Troms police district wrote on Twitter at 10:10 p.m.
Police are still working at the scene of the accident.
Local man died
At 5:40 p.m., it was confirmed that a person on the scooter was killed in the accident.
– He’s a local man in his 40s, says operations manager Jørgen Ahlquist in the Troms police district to Nordlys.
The other person who was on the scooter is at UNN and the identity of this person has not yet been clarified by the police.
– What we know is that the car collided with the scooter. This is a tragic accident and we are doing our best to clarify the course of events. We don’t know much more than this, says Ahlquist.
Explain that there is an investigation on the site that remains.
– We also took blood samples from the three involved and the questioning of witnesses is underway, he says.
