The Stavanger Oilers are back on the right track after a miserable start to the season. Away against Lillehammer, they showed glimpses of last season’s greatness, but the victory may have been expensive.

Lillehammer – Stavanger Oilers: 1–6
LILLEHAMMER: Of course, it is too early to get the Oilers back after the miserable start to the season, but with two wins in a row the team is now on the right track.
– It’s a start! We have Vålerenga next and it will obviously be a tough match, but we are on the right track. But whether we win or lose, if we continue to play the right way, we will be in a good position at the end of the season, is David Morley’s verdict.
However, the game against Lillehammer may have given the Oilers both headaches and joy as Patrick Ulriksen and Nicolai Bryhnisveen were sent to hospital, the latter following an ugly tackle by Andreas Martinsen.
– Ulriksen was shot and received an upper body injury, and was sent to hospital. Bryhnisveen said he was fine when he sat there, but was sent to the hospital for a checkup. I don’t know of any more status than that, says Oilers coach Juha Kaunismäki.
Dream Start for Oilers
The question before the game was whether the Oilers could build on victories over Narvik on Thursday. After the first few minutes, the answer was clear, yes! The Oilers came out in a hundred against Lillehammer and within two minutes the disc was on the net.
Although they are no longer young, it is likely that many are happy that it was the “youth trio” of the Oilers that led. Markus Vikingstad scored thanks to assists from Thomas Berg-Paulsen and Simen Talge.

The Oilers kept driving and just minutes later Chris Rumble doubled the lead. What was also noteworthy was that the players in the area were much more active than they had been earlier this season. It depends on roaring and clapping for every slightest positive engagement.
– We should try to cheer up! It’s down a bit, but it’s about being positive. Just get up and it worked. At the same time, he was very calm in the Lillehammer box, Daniel Rokseth smiles.

There was also more to cheer on the Oilers. After a small cannonade against the Lillehammer goal, a David Morley on his knees managed to send the puck off the line. Thus, 3-0 after a very solid period for the Oilers.
Sacrificial greasers
The second period begins, unsurprisingly, somewhat calmer than the first. Lillehammer were the leading team for a long time and had several good chances, but Henrik Holm made one brilliant save after another.
He was especially impressive on the Oilers’ defense when they had to play for the minute with two fewer men on the ice. The home team peppered, but blocks, saves and sacrifices ensured that zero was kept.
The reward was a minority score when the greasers had four men left. An authorization ended with Dan Kissel suddenly having half to himself. He calmly slipped over to the goalie and put the puck safely into the net.
– It was of enormous importance and a small turning point in the game. If they had scored a goal there and only one had been behind, it would have been a completely different ending to the match. It’s definitely something we can build on, says Morley.
Lillehammer didn’t give up, however, and they continued to advance toward the Oilers’ goal and Holm ultimately had to capitulate when a return occurred. That with just five minutes to go.

In the end, there was a bad mood after a poor tackle by Rudolf Balcers. After a bit of a fist fight, a couple of men had to sit in the penalty area, but there were no more goals in the second act.
Charm tap or nail bits?
After several meltdowns earlier this season, no one was sure of the Oilers’ victory before the third period, despite a solid game so far. It turned out, however, that the fear of unfounded.
For five minutes into the period, Brady Brassart got a good pass when he crossed with Markus Søberg in the middle zone. The way to the goal was then opened and the lead increased to 5-1.

Frustration began to spread in Lillehammer and Andreas Martinsen ran off as he swept Nicolai Bryhinisveen on the mitten in an ugly way. That led to a game penalty for the former NHL pro.
The Oilers also had five minutes to go and used David Morley to set the final score at 6-1. A very strong victory for the Oilers, which in many ways reminded a bit of last season’s gold team.
