Lyngdal is now in a situation that is approaching red and full closure. This is what Lyngdal Mayor Jan Kristensen says.
On Saturday, 26 people tested positive for corona in Lyngdal. In the neighboring municipality of Lindesnes, the number is currently 17. They are all linked to four religious meetings in Lyngdal.
– There is no control over the infection, says Kristensen.
The municipality fears a major outbreak.
Two people who tested positive Thursday attended various religious gatherings this past weekend.
It is a Romanian Christian congregation. They rent the premises to Bethany Lyngdal.
Hundreds of people participated, both children and adults. The meetings had been going on for several hours.
All new infections are related to the outbreak in this setting. In addition, there are branches to Farsund and Søgne.
Schools and kindergartens are likely to be closed.
Police reporter
The municipality denounces the police for violations of the Infection Control Law. They write that they are aware that the isolation has not been met.
Crisis management at Lyngdal is concerned about language barriers. The atmosphere appears to be closed, they write in the press release.
Later on Saturday, a regional crisis meeting is planned. The county governor’s emergency department, law enforcement and the National Institute of Public Health will also participate.
Small municipality without contagion
The ethnic group is large in Lyngdal. A couple of hundred live in the municipality.
The congregation also has members in the neighboring municipalities of Lindesnes and Hægebostad.
Hægebostad had no infection in the municipality on Friday. Now there are two that have tested positive.
School class affected
The infection has also affected a class at Lyngdal Christian Primary School.
The reason is that one of the infected has recently been visiting his classroom.
Both the principal and two teachers of the school were quarantined and examined.
Several schools and kindergartens may also be affected by the incident, according to the municipality.
Take all the precautions
Crisis management now asks the local population to strictly follow infection control rules.
In addition, they have chosen to close the cinema and parts of Sørlandsbadet in Lyngdal. Recently, the neighboring municipality of Farsun has had a major infection outbreak.
– We take all precautions now to avoid further infection, says the mayor.
