Labor wants to spend a billion to make it cheaper to go to the doctor – NRK Norway – Summary of news from different parts of the country

– It is completely unheard of for the Conservative government in the midst of a corona pandemic to make getting sick more expensive. The Labor Party will clean it up, Labor Party fiscal policy spokesperson Hadia Tajik tells NRK.

On Thursday, the Storting’s largest opposition party will present its alternative budget. The Labor Party has moved 8.4 billion, compared to the government budget.

Recover one billion from wealth tax

The government wealth tax cut of more than one billion is eliminated. Instead, the Labor Party will use the money to lower the exemption card limit to NOK 2,460 in 2021.

– In our proposal for the state budget, we propose that people get relief from SEK 700 to SEK 2,000 by changing the maximum deductible limit, so that for a few more it is cheaper to seek medical help and buy medicine, says Tajik.

The government planned to merge the current scheme with two deductible caps to a common cap of NOK 3,183.

Around 1.1 million Norwegians would receive additional spending of up to NOK 723 per year under the new scheme, while 183,000 Norwegians would save NOK 1,453.

Will hire more in the state

The Labor Party also plans to raise $ 2.4 billion from the use of consultants for whom the government has set aside money. Consultancy contracts between private actors and the state usually have a duration of several years.

– We will spend a large part of the money to hire people in permanent positions to build professional environments in the public sector, says Tajik, who will spend 1.2 billion on government jobs.

– Will the Labor Party hypothetically terminate or revise the consulting contracts that are being executed to move the use of the money to employment in the state?

– We make budgets that we would manage. The government would also have the opportunity to plan such reductions well in advance. At least a Labor-led government would do that, he says.

Right: – It will affect jobs in the districts.

Parliamentary representative Vetle Wang Soleim (H) on the finance committee believes that in Tajikistan there will be easy cuts affecting the districts.

– It is quite critical if they really want to suppress the development of, for example, digital services for businesses and citizens across the country, but I can understand that those general cuts are what the Labor Party must resort to to pay its promises when they decide to leave. Most of the tax relief that Støre called an “unorthodox tax scandal” will remain, he says.

Soleim, like Tajik, affirms that government tasks must be solved first and foremost by permanent employees. But he sees that agencies need special expertise and more resources to solve project tasks for shorter and longer periods.

– Since this government has moved far more government offices and works into districts than the Labor Party ever did, such cuts will affect both district jobs and the development of digital services for those who live there. If the alternative is to hire everyone you need temporarily in permanent positions, then it’s an insane abuse of both financial and human resources, he says.

The Labor Party will also cut NOK 745 million in cash support and remove NOK 147 million from support for private kindergartens. Parts of the pot will go to free SFO, 2,900 new kindergarten slots and more kindergarten teachers.

In addition, HRS support of NOK 1.8 million will be removed, and the money will be used to strengthen the police work against hate crimes.
