LARVIK (VG) Fritzøehus is one of the most magnificent properties in the country. But for the children of the late Mille-Marie Treschow, it was first and foremost a home. Here they invited colleagues and friends to a barbecue and school graduation.

– Mom was always hospitable. We have so many good memories and we really appreciate it, say VG Michael Stang Treschow (33) and Victoria Marie Treschow Forsberg (31).

On Wednesday, they publish the book “Fritzøehus – the four seasons”, two years after the death of his mother Mille-Marie Treschow.

– He passed away in the middle of the book launch. Suddenly and unexpectedly. So we had more than enough to deal with it, realizing that she was gone. Now we are very proud to be able to present the book. It was a long project for Mom. He planned the book for many years before starting work on it, says Michael Stang Treschow.

Fritzøehus in Larvik is the largest private house in Norway with an area of ​​2302 square meters. The house was built in 1863. It is still owned by the Treschow family. It is now the seventh generation, with Michael Stang Treschow as the owner.

– We’re not sure how many rooms are in the house, says Michael.

-But we’ve been to all of them, Victoria adds.

And in one of them they have probably spent more time than in many of the other rooms.

– Michael’s room: it was my favorite room when I was little. I often sneaked in there. There were so many great toys there. Cars and car lane. I think sometimes he slept there too, says Victoria.

Some of what the older brother remembers from childhood is related to the long period in which the house was renovated.

– It was a construction site then and one of the funniest things I showed was skating on the sheet metal sheets that were placed to protect the floors. It was a lot of fun, he says.

Through “Fritzøehus – the four seasons”, the family opens for the first time the doors of the magnificent house built in the Italian Neo-Renaissance style.

Mille-Marie will be buried in the garden

– The book was finished printing when my mother died and has been in stock ever since. All we’ve done is make a new cover and add a little text in memory of Mom, says Michael.

The book costs 989 kroner, it is printed in a print run of 1,100, of which 100 are in English. “Fritzøehus – the four seasons” is only sold through the website of the non-profit foundation created for this purpose; Mille-Marie Treschow Foundation for Cancer Research.

– All proceeds go to the Cancer Society, says Michael.

Michael Stang Treschow and Victoria Marie Treschow Forsberg are happy that their mother did such a painstaking job when she restored the entire house.

– We are lucky because my mother accepted the promise she made and renovated the house as extensively as she did. It’s so nice here, and the house is in much better condition than when it was built, they say.

The book shows the house from the attic to the basement. A large number of historical objects, furniture, uniforms and clothing are represented, as well as interior details and photos of the garden and park.

Mille-Marie Treschow spent ten years renovating and restoring the massive mansion in Bøkeskogen, on the outskirts of Larvik, to its original splendor.

Mille-Marie Treschow wanted this to be a magnificent book in which the pictures told the story. Mille-Marie Treschow worked closely with photographer Esten Borgos on the book project. All the photographs in the book were taken by him.

– I wanted to show Fritzøehus from his best side, during the four seasons. It also includes the interaction between the house, the garden and the park, said in a press release in connection with the launch.

Not least from kindergarten, Victoria has many fond childhood memories.

– I remember well my mother who took me around the garden when I was little. They are good memories. We collected flowers, white seaweed, snowdrops, all kinds of beautiful flowers that she placed in vases around the house.

Still, one of the best and strongest memories she has of Fritzøehus is of a very special day in her life. September 30, 2017.

– My wedding. It was an absolutely incredible day, absolutely spectacular. Mom arranged everything. She was a wedding planner, says the mother of two.
