Tuesday’s infection rate is an increase of 79 cases from the previous day, and the highest number recorded in a day in the capital since the pandemic broke out.

All of Oslo’s districts are well above the level that qualifies for the so-called red level, a term used for areas with high infection pressure.

Bright red

The worst situation is in the districts of Stovner and Søndre Nordstrand, with 154 and 169 new cases of infection in the last two weeks, respectively. In Stovner district, this corresponds to 462.2 infected per 100,000 inhabitants in the last two weeks, while in Søndre Nordstrand it corresponds to 432.6 infected per 100,000 inhabitants.

Ullern district has the lowest infection pressure, with 41 new cases in the past two weeks.

In Oslo, most people are still infected in the 20-29 age group.

Strict measures

From midnight to Tuesday, three weeks of the so-called social closure begin to overcome the development of the infection, which has increased considerably in recent times.

The ban on all indoor events, the suspension of adult grassroots sports, the closure of cinemas, theaters and gyms, as well as the cessation of drinking are some of the intrusive measures taken by the Oslo City Council on Monday .

If one wants to be successful in limiting social activity to a minimum, it must be closed where people gather, Johansen said.

Several municipalities near Oslo have also chosen to introduce the measures or similar measures, including Lillestrøm, Nordre Follo and Drammen.
