That’s why I left KrF

What’s happened to KrF lately, it really scares me.

Say; D post

When I turned 13, I joined the Popular Christian Party. Today, more than 7 years later, I sign up. I can no longer defend or legitimize what KrF has become.

When I joined the party in 2013, it was because I thought the party had the best policy on the issues that I was most passionate about: offensive policy to stop the climate crisis, a generous and humane immigration and asylum policy, powerful measures to combat poverty. . and that society defends those who need it most.

Unfortunately, the party’s commitment to these issues has waned in recent years.

Wrong address

During the directional struggle in the party in the fall of 2018, I fought for the party to support a center-left collaboration. But the party chose Sylvi Listhaug and Erna Solberg over Knut Arild Hareide and Jonas Gahr Støre.

Then I considered opting out, but stayed in the match to fight for the issues that really matter. The choice of the direction the party took was not in the best interest of the party or the country. But it is everything that has happened to KrF in the time since the choice of direction that really scares me.

KrF has failed in the climate strikes. Instead of fighting for better climate policy and an end date for oil activities on the Norwegian shelf, the party chooses to build a conflict with the environmental movement and call it a “threat to the Christian vision of man.”

The climate crisis is one of the greatest challenges of our time and we must take drastic measures to stop it. So it is useless to attack the environmental movement.

Failing refugees and queer

KrF has failed the children of Moria. On the same day that the camp was burned to the ground, the party leader came out and cheered that Norway should receive 50 children from the camp. 50 is nothing. Norway receives less than half that of Finland, and only one-tenth of the amount that Portugal will receive.

Germany receives more than 1,500 refugees. However, we wait 8-10 countries before doing anything. And the government and KrF bragged about it.

KrF has failed gay and transgender people. An important party motto in recent years has been “A society with room for everyone.” Unfortunately, the party has not lived up to its own motto. KrF chose to fight with picks and claws to make conversion therapy still legal, and the youth party has decided that they want to ban gender correction treatment until age 25.

Ignorant, hateful and almost conspiratorial statements and attitudes towards LGBTI, Pride and FRI people are spreading at record speed among the party rank and file.

It’s not my party anymore

KrF has failed in the public debate. While the party previously fought for a decent public debate and agreement with Sylvi Listhaug’s divisive and misleading proposal, the current party leadership takes a different line. The current party leadership has tabled populist proposals on flags, school services, and Christmas celebrations.

After 7 years at the party, I have a lot to be thankful for: good friends, great experiences and a valuable experience. But now I’m done.

KrF is no longer a Christian Democratic party, but a Christian conservative party. KrF is no longer a center-right party, but a bourgeois party. I don’t want to support that anymore.
