The case is being updated.

LATEST: At 21:23, the Trøndelag police report that the man has been found safe and sound, sitting by a fire. He was detained by the Red Cross and the police. They used a boat to cross Liavatnet, police say. By then, the man had run out of power on his mobile phone.

The man in his 50s was traveling on Skjolden Mountain in Nærøysund. He got lost in steep terrain and it was dark and pitch-cold.

It was the man’s wife who announced that he was missing on Sunday afternoon. Police reported the man missing at 4:45 p.m. on Sunday.

– The wife contacted him by phone. Then he was about to make a fire. The man is used to the mountains and well dressed. It was of poor quality, but it wasn’t very cold, the operations manager said.

At 7.30 pm, the police contacted the man by phone. Police had the desire to send a helicopter to pick up the man, but this did not give the Main Rescue Center the green light.

– We send ground teams to collect it. The man has been told to stay calm where he is. His phone is low on power, said operations manager Øystein Sagen in the Trøndelag police district shortly before 7.30pm.
