Dag-Eilev Fagermo took revenge on the old club.
VÅLERENGA-ODD 2-0
INTILITY ARENA (Nettavisen): Vålerenga took advantage of Rosenborg and Molde’s mistakes in Sunday’s Elite Series round when they scored a major home win against Odd. Dag-Eilev Fagermo took long-awaited revenge for the humiliating defeat at Skagerak Arena earlier in the season, after Herolind Shala punctured the ball into the net in the first round for the Oslo club.
Just before the end, substitute Mathias Vilhjlamsson punctured the match for the home team
Guest coach Jan Frode Nornes saw a toothless Odd before the break at the Intility Arena. He also let it shine clearly after the match.
– I am disappointed and pissed off after the first round. This is the second break talk where I have to raise my voice. Bodø / Glimt was the first time he’s also here today. What we show before the break is well below average. It’s surprising and disappointing that we can’t recreate anything we saw in the midweek game against Viking. If we want to achieve something against Vålerenga, who are a top team, you have to deliver it to a higher level. I am very disappointed. We seem concerned and passive, Nornes tells Nettavisen after the game.
Deserved Vålerenga address – Nornes dissatisfied
Ivan Näsberg had the first chance of the match in the sixth minute. A cross from the right left Sondre Rossbach alone in front of goal after 80 minutes, but his shot went awry.
Vålerenga led the home game at Intility and seized a great opportunity after 20 minutes. Osame Sahraoui put a perfect cross into the head of Henrik Bjørdal, but a very good save by Rossbach prevented him from scoring.
Sahraoui was a constant threat throughout the left, creating dangers time and time again. Before the half hour was played, he passed the ball to Aron Dønnum, who had made the trip from the opposite edge. Under pressure, the latter was unable to reach a proper conclusion.
Minutes later, Odd got his first chance, it was good in return. Vladimir Rodic entered a deep run and sent a balloon that escaped from the crossbar.
Dønnum got another chance soon after, but his hard-hitting shot went straight at Rossbach.
A few minutes before the break, the scratch should break into a relatively tame first half. A play against Vidar Ørn Kjartansson finally landed on the legs of Herolind Shala, who turned the ball into the corner and sent Vålerenga ahead.
– Then we had some action in East Oslo, commented Eurosport’s Asbjørn Myhre.
Soon after, the lead could have been doubled when Sahraoui rolled with Odd’s defense. The youngster’s finish and Henrik Bjørdal’s finish on the lap were stopped by Odd’s last defense.
– Keeps Odd in the fight with some brilliant saves, Myhre and his colleague Bengt Eriksen exclaimed over Rossbach.
Vålerenga thus entered the dressing room with a well-deserved advantage. During the break, the guest coach, Jan Frode Nornes, was not at all satisfied.
– We have been terribly wrong. We are lucky to be just down 1-0. We have been bad most of the time, summarized Nornes for Eurosport.
First shot on goal
The second round started off as the first a bit hesitant. Just before the time was played, Odd finally made it to his first shot on goal.
Espen Ruud took a free kick from 25 meters towards the goal and a small shot from Rashani caused problems for Kristoffer Klaesson in the VIF cage, but the home team escaped in horror.
Ruud hit the ball into Vebjørn Hoff’s head, but the ball went half a meter outside the center longer, to the relief of the Vålerenga players.
Odd showed a completely different side of himself after the break and had a better grip on the ball than in the first 45 minutes.
Nornes brought in the great adult duo Robin Simovic and Tobias Lauritsen 20 minutes before the end. The former stood out immediately a minute later when Odd launched an attack from right to left. At the back of the field, Simovic was suddenly completely free, but Klaesson kept a completely wild save at the end from an angle.
Just before the end, Mathias Vilhjlamsson decided the match when he doubled Vålerenga’s lead. Odin Thiago Holm extended the ball to the Icelander who was frozen only with the goalkeeper.
