Demonstrations in various American cities

LAST: Police have declared riots in downtown Portland and the Oregon National Guard has been activated. State authorities say the National Guard is deployed due to “widespread violence.” Writes the county sheriff Twitter, which also reports that at least eight people have been arrested. The sheriff’s office is asking people to leave the area. The local TV channel KATU also reports on riots.

The result of the presidential election, which was much smoother than expected, and allegations of electoral fraud have generated fears and unease over the violence and riots.

On Wednesday, there were demonstrations in cities including Seattle, Philadelphia, Washington and New York, but there have been no reports of injuries.

In Chicago, several protesters have gathered on the streets, including in front of the city’s Trump Tower. Protesters light up flashlights on their cell phones to symbolically illuminate the Trump camp’s attempt to halt vote counting in various states.

– Stop counting

In Detroit, a large group of Trump supporters have gathered in front of an electoral college.

Protesters shout slogans like “stop the count,” writes The Hill. According to Forbes, the protesters demanded that they be allowed into the premises, while, according to Insider, clashes broke out between protesters and police outside the building.

The media describes that there is a hectic atmosphere outside the place.

Several of the protesters were initially present in force to be “vote challengers,” people with partisan affiliation who, under state law, can watch the vote count. The unrest arose when the authorities had to announce that the place was full.

The news came as Trump declared that he will sue the state to stop the counting of votes.

In Philadelphia, about 200 protesters gathered Wednesday afternoon, calling it a defense of democracy. The group consisted of unions, climate conservationists and others. There were also anti-Trump rallies in Portland and Seattle on Tuesday night, where several were arrested.

Demonstrations in Philadelphia and other Pennsylvania cities increased in size overnight.

Protester with rifle

In Phoenix, Arizona, about 150 Trump supporters gathered outside City Hall. “Shame on Fox,” protesters shouted after Fox News named Biden the winner in the state.

In a video posted on Twitter By New York Times reporter Simon Romero, it can be seen that at least one of the protesters is carrying a military-type rifle.

According to USA Today, more than 100 rallies organized in the days leading up to the weekend are planned. The group ShutDownDC warns of strong demonstrations if Donald Trump tries to challenge the electoral result.
