The player numbers of the Obosliga Grorud and Stjørdals-Blink clubs are under quarantine after a Grorud player was diagnosed with a corona infection. This has consequences for the list of terms.

Magnus Nordstrand Myntevik, head of the NFF medical council, confirms to VG that one of Grorud’s players is infected with corona. The person in question developed symptoms and became ill shortly after the game between Grorud and Stjørdals-Blink this weekend. The Oslo club won 3-2.

– The infected person is isolated and both clubs, as well as the player’s close contacts, have been quarantined. So now we are working with infection tracking, Myntevik says.

In a press release on the NFF website Tuesday night, they state that the infected player received confirmation of the infection on Tuesday. Wednesday is the full round of the entire series, and Grorud played a home game against Strømmen. On Saturday, they were due to play an away game against Jerv, but now the Grorud and Stjørdals-Blink games will be postponed.

– Club players cannot compete in training or matches, Myntevik stresses.

– Then we just have to watch if any of the other close contacts or players develop symptoms, he adds.

Before Wednesday’s round, Grorud is 14th in the Obosligaen and sits with 27 points after 24 games after Sunday’s win against Blink. There are six games left of the season, and Grorud has seven points to Kongsvinger in 15th place. There are 16 teams in the division, with the last two places releasing directly to level three in Norway.

General manager Jon Ole Reinhardsen at Grorud tells VG that he does not know how the player in question has been infected.

– Have you been careless?

– We have followed the necessary protocols.

– It is bad?

– He had symptoms and was therefore tested.

– What does this have to say for the end of the season by Grorud?

– This means that there will be a match schedule a little closer. That’s what it’s going to be.

– Are you equipped for it?

– Yes. Our players are ready for that. That is not the focus today. Now they go home and will be quarantined for ten days.

– Is there any danger that more players have it?

– There is always a danger, but there is no indication of it. We follow the guidelines we have received, says the general manager of Grorud.

I have no change of rules

This is the second major case of infection in Obosligaen this fall. In September, a Jerv player tested positive for the coronavirus and therefore the entire team had to be quarantined.

Recently, the Norwegian Football Association submitted a request to change the current quarantine rules at the best clubs. The NFF proposed the same arrangement as several of the other European leagues: that only the infected player / coach had to go through quarantine for ten days, while the others on the team (close contacts) could live as usual if they tested negative. and they had no symptoms.

To that end, the NFF received a no from the health authorities and therefore all staff members of the two Obosliga clubs must now go through an involuntary ten-day football break.

Coach Roar Vikvang at Stjørdals-Blink says the entire team was at the training ground Tuesday afternoon when they were told they would instead be quarantined.

– Yes, we were training now when the article arrived. But now we have a medical department within that has been in contact with NFF and received more information, says Vikvang.

Crown infection and postponements mean there will be more games pending in the division, which could have major consequences for the table and the outcome of the season. Right now, the final round of the series is scheduled for December 5.

The infection trend in Norway is increasing, and the Minister of Health and Care Services, Bent Høie (H), is taking the situation seriously after 700 cases of infection were recorded in the last 24 hours. It has already announced stricter measures.

In total, more than 21,000 people have been confirmed infected in Norway since the coronavirus outbreak. Displays the overview of the VG crown.

In Oslo, 1,254 people have been infected in the last 14 days. The municipality of Stjørdal, like 66 other municipalities in Norway, has an increasing tendency to infection. There have been 19 infected people in the last 14 days.

The 26th round is played on November 15. It is currently unclear if this round will also be affected as a result of the infection in Grorud. In the press release, NFF states that they will return with more information on the parties that need to move.

– It is unfortunate, but we must be prepared for this type of scenario in these times. This is yet another reminder to all of us of how important it is to follow soccer protocols and the authorities’ advice on infection control. At the same time, I must emphasize that there are no suspected breaches of protocol in this case, says Nils Fisketjønn, head of the competition department at NFF.
