In the streets there are empty houses that are deteriorating. Only some of them have intact windows, where people live. Trash is everywhere: plastic, scraps of planks, furniture scraps, and roofs.

The middle class once lived in this area, but disappeared with the automobile industry that flourished here in the 1950s.

NRK is in “the city that God forgot”, specifically Detroit, Michigan.

Here, almost four out of every five inhabitants are black. Today there are no whites in the streets.

Two relatively young black men come walking by and we ask them if they should vote in the election.

– I don’t want to vote for anyone, but if I were, it would be for Trump, says Navarre Craxton.

“I want to vote for Trump,” said Comrade John McClain.

Smells like light alcohol early in the morning.

– Trump is not a politician, he is there for the people. There are no businesses here in the United States at this time. We need help, they both say.

“Political” is an insult to many of Trump’s supporters.

Parts of Detroit are characterized by vacant, dilapidated houses. It is especially the areas on the outskirts of the city center that seem to have ended in a decline that is difficult to reverse.

– Better economy with Trump

Craxton and McClain are in their thirties and neither of them has a job.

They receive $ 80 a week, about 750 crowns, in social support. They believe that Trump is the best thing for the economy.

– Do you see any future for you?

– I see a long-term future for my children. It depends on how the election goes, says McClain.

The two represent Joe Biden’s big problem, just before the American election is decided.

The polls are pretty consistent: They show that Biden is struggling to reach black American voters, and especially young men. They are important in several tip states, including Georgia, North Carolina, Michigan, and Pennsylvania.

That’s why Joe Biden is now mobilizing all he can to reach black voters in the right states. The Politico newspaper writes that Biden has brought the family of the late George Floyd as towing aid in the final sprint.

Biden’s national leadership over Trump has been relatively stable in recent months as the crown pandemic has raged in the United States. But Trump still has a chance to win because polls show a steady race in several major states.

Think Trump is divisive

But most NRK hits in Detroit respond that they should vote for Democrat Joe Biden.

– I vote for Biden, because Trump is not good for the country. It’s divisive and draws the champions of white power, says Ellis.

He is educated and works in finance.

At the Detroit City Council voting station, Dolly Thomas will vote for the first time, even though she is in her 30s.

– I vote for Biden, because the Democrats need our vote, he says.

But inside the electoral college, he has problems and is about to leave.

Dolly Thomas has nothing to show the address, because lately she has lived in a shelter for the homeless. But he gets help from a friendly election official.

– What you have to do is fill out a written statement in which you swear that you are who you say you are, says Andrej Ghebby.

Then, for the first time in her 35 years of life, Dolly walks into the cubicle to vote. A quarter of an hour later, he leaves happy to have contributed.

– I am happy. Now I know how to do it next time, says Dolly.

On November 3, 2020, Americans elect their next president. Donald Trump is running for Republican re-election. Joe Biden is running for president of the Democrats. Biden leads the polls, but Trump has surprised before. Who is really voting for Trump?
