More than 3,600 National Guard soldiers have mobilized and are ready to “assist with cyber defense, polling station work and post-election civil unrest efforts.”
On Monday, 1,000 soldiers were deployed to Massachusetts, 300 to Arizona, 300 to Alabama and an unknown number to Florida, Oregon and Illinois, writes the Military Times.
According to the website, soldiers in Massachusetts and Oregon, which is home to the city of Portland, will be mostly on standby if violent riots break out. In Arizona, they will be ready to be called to “anywhere in the western United States.”
Oregon Gov. Kate Brown declares a state of emergency in the Portland area from 5 p.m. local time Tuesday to 5 p.m. local time Wednesday, Oregon Public Broadcasting reports.
