On Monday night, the Oslo police followed the development of the terrorist attack in Vienna on security around the Oslo synagogue.
On Friday, the Police Security Service wrote that they consider that the threat of terrorism by extreme Islamists in Norway has intensified since the last assessment this summer. The threat level remains moderate, but according to PST, it will pass shortly before the expected threat assessment changes to probable.
Oslo police on Monday night referred to the threat assessment and informed NTB that they are following the attack in Vienna on an ongoing basis.
– The Oslo synagogue is an object with which the police already have a good dialogue in everyday life. We continually assess the situation and have increased our vigilance toward vulnerable objects, says Operations Manager Line Skott.
In Copenhagen, Danish police blocked several streets around the city’s synagogues while the attack took place in Vienna. Skott will not comment on what specific action the police have taken in relation to the attack in Austria.
In its setting, the PST refers, among other things, to the heated situation after a new dispute over the Muhammad cartoons in France.
– PST sharpened our assessment of the threat landscape in Norway just before the weekend. Our assessment of the terrorist threat in Norway has not changed after what happened in Vienna tonight, information manager Trond Hugubakken told NTB on Monday night.
It states that it is up to the individual police district to comment on whether security changes have been made after the attack in Vienna.
