The municipality of Rana was notified Monday morning of two new positive samples. During a press conference today, City Chief Medical Officer Frode Berg stated that two more people are infected. These have been in close contact with the first two.

Berg also said that about 250 people have been quarantined.

The municipality claims that the infection detection team works to identify and contact close contacts.

Municipal Chief Doctor Berg also requests that all planned events be canceled.

Squeeze in the county

The Nordland County Municipality writes in a press release that public transportation will be restricted after the infection is known Monday.

Therefore, the measurements will be the same as in Bodø last week.

– When the situation becomes like this, we will have to tighten the measures in public transport and look for opportunities to relieve in pressure areas such as Mo i Rana. We will do what we can, but we are also completely dependent on the help of passengers, says county council leader and crisis leader Tomas Norvoll.

The county’s director of transport and infrastructure, Odd Inge Bardal, encourages all Rana and Bodø passengers to explore alternative transport possibilities.

At the same time, he hopes people will use flexible work hours or home offices to reduce pressure, while the county is considering whether they need to implement additional measures.

– The most important thing is that together we manage to limit the infection to protect each other. We in the county municipality will do our best to expand capacity, but it will be more difficult the more areas of Nordland turn red.

The most normal daily life possible

For upper secondary schools, the school day should run as normally as possible, also in Rana and Bodø.

– We have more than 1,100 upper secondary students in Rana and more than 2,000 in Bodø, and many of them take buses to school. Therefore, I encourage all students and school employees to use alternate transportation whenever possible, says county director of education and competition Nina Ellingsen Høiskar.
